The gates opened and thankfully your horse knew what to do better than you did. You followed the formation and managed to keep pace with the others. In an attempt to calm yourself you ran different battle strategies and tips you had read for dealing with Titans. "Do what you can to aim for the neck." You told yourself as you galloped along.
You looked around and saw some of the other squads shifting in position trying to keep up with Commander Erwin's pace and as the landscape flew by you almost forgot you were in the army and most likely about to face a battle against monsters you've only heard stories about.
Your team kept pace with the Commander and followed him even as he fell out of formation. Off to your right you could see the red flares going up and for a moment it reminded you of the paint the military police would use to condemn buildings.
"[F/n]!" The sound of Eren's voice pulled you back to the present. "[F/n] take my horse's reigns!"
He was galloping at the same speed you were and he looked determined. "What are you about to do?"
"Trust me. Corporal?"
Levi was dead ahead and you heard him call back. "Just do it brat."
Eren had the two of you slow down until you were safely behind the group. "No matter what just keep going. Ok?"
He didn't give you time to answer before he bailed from the horse. You called his name but it was drowned out by unhinged screaming. Right before your eyes all the stories about him came true. Eren was suddenly 6 meters tall and running towards the source of the red flares. "The Rogue Titan? He really is the Rogue Titan?"
"Don't think about it [F/n]!" Armin appeared at your side drawing your attention to him. "Keep up! He'll meet with us later."
By the time you reached the rest house several other individual people had charged off to help out where the flares were. Eventually even Levi and his kids had to join the fight. Samson tried to say something high spirited but you couldn't really make it out. He settled on blowing you a kiss and you honestly didn't know what your face looked like but it caused him to laugh and gallop off and join the others that were heading into the battle.
You were apart of the team that was tasked with the setting up and maintaining the infirmary unit and you tried to steel your nerves as the first casualties began trickling in. Those who weren't seriously injured were able to bring in those that needed help the most and you were thankfully told to help with the minor injuries and lucky for you nothing too gruesome came your way.
"Don't shake. The stitches will get messed up." you looked down at your hands and you saw your fingers shaking like the earthquake monitors you had seen demonstrated in town.
"Breathe. Calm down and breathe."
"First trip outside the walls?" you couldn't do anything except nod. You finally look at the woman who's arm you were stitching up. She didn't look much older than the others from the 104th that you had met so far. "Well all I can say is that it becomes normal and if you survive long enough it won't bother you as much." you tried to understand but you couldn't see yourself becoming ok with this. "What's your name kid? I'm Mallory."
"[F/n] [L/n] of the 108th."
Brown eyes settled on your face as you picked up the needles to begin working again. "You were the kid that they had the hit on, right?"
"Um Yeah."
"And you're from the Underground right?"
"Yes."
