Hey hey hey, let me know if this sucks, because I have no idea.
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
After last night's events I swore off parties, until the end of time. Harry took me home eventually, but not until he bitched about it for a good hour and a half. Once Niall needed assistance to stand, he figured it was probably a good time to head out.
This morning, my mother had taken it upon herself to wake me up at the crack of dawn to go Christmas shopping.
"Mom, we really don't need another light up reindeer, we have like 5..."
"Ada, darling, please do not make this difficult. You're always making these things difficult."
"Mom, the whole aspect of this holiday is completely asinine. Do you even know how Christmas became a holiday?"
"Yes, Christ, your savior was born on this day and we are celebrating that moment in time by gathering with loved ones and exchanging presents."
I rolled my eyes, "The 12 days of Christmas weren't full of gifts and fun-loving, dancing men, mother."
"Ada, don't do this here, okay? I'm trying to enjoy some bonding time with you-"
"How can you possibly want to bond when there are humans being sacrificed right this second around the world? If you actually read up on where Christmas came from, you'd be against this absurd holiday too. I mean, what's the point of buying gifts for people who probably don't even deserve it?"
"You're giving me a headache, Ada. I am not discussing this with you anymore. Heavens, I need a coffee."
Honestly, I liked Christmas, I really did. It was the only time all my siblings got together, for the sake of my mother, of course. My oldest -and favorite- brother was off saving lives and rescuing kittens out of trees as a firefighter. My other brother was a starting quarterback at the Washington State University, of course. Then, my older sister is finishing up her last years of college, studying to be -wait for it- a doctor, like none of us saw that coming.
It's actually a lot less troublesome being the black sheep in the family than you'd think. Beside from the annual get-togethers with everyone, my mother usually doesn't expect much from me, which I don't mind because she'd be disappointed anyways.
After shoving a cup of coffee in my face, my mom went to go look at some wrapping paper or something and I opted to wait for her in the coffee shop. I watched billions of perky, bodacious, voluptuous girls walk by with their boyfriends and hoards of screaming girl friends and almost felt...I don't know, left out or something?
Where the hell had my mother run off to, anyways? I looked down to my watch; she'd been gone nearly 20 minutes now. Probably figured she'd leave me here and I'd be someone else's problem this Christmas.
"Ada?"
I turned to see Niall holding a cup of coffee as well, making his way towards me.
"Fancy meeting you here," Niall grinned pulling up a chair, "and all by your lonesome. Good thing we showed up."
"We?"
On cue, a haggard looking Harry sat down next to Niall, gripping his own cup of steaming coffee. Harry's usual quiff was covered by a gray beanie that looked better then it should on him. Since he was wearing sunglasses indoors and his coffee appeared to be black, I assumed he was hung-over from the night before.
"Yes, fancy indeed..." I muttered, stealing another glance at Harry, "What are you guys up to today? I figured you'd be in bed after last night."
"I'm sure that's exactly what Haz had planned for today," Niall affectionately rubbed his friends back, "but I had some last minute Christmas shopping to do and I didn't want to go alone."
"You could have asked Zayn, you know," Harry's voice was deeper than usual and it took everything in me not to shudder at the sound of it.
"Zayn would have gutted me if I tried to wake him from his beauty sleep."
"And you just assumed I wouldn't?" I could see Harry's eyebrow rise above his sunglasses and held back a smile.
"Ada you won't believe what I found for your sister; its absolutely perfect- Oh," my mother came over, brandishing a Macy's bag, "Hello there. Ada why don't you introduce me to your friends."
"Uh sure...This is Niall and um...Harry," I prayed Harry would be pleasant for the sake of my mother not making a scene at his rudeness. Much to my surprise, Harry took his sunglasses off and stood up to shake my mother's hand. Niall followed in suit.
Judging by my mother's large smile and -kill me- giggling, I figured the boys had made a good impression on her. "Oh it's a pleasure to meet you boys."
"The pleasure is ours," Harry and Niall said in unison and I swear I almost puked.
"Ada, you never mentioned having such nice friends," my mother sighed.
"I didn't know I had any..." I muttered quietly. Only Harry caught it, earning me a small smile.
"Mrs. Burke," Niall started, "I was wondering, actually, if Ada could come over to Harry's house for a while?"
I raised an eyebrow, Harry mirroring my actions.
"His parents are out of town and I was hoping I could rally her to help decorate his Christmas tree."
"Oh of course, sweetheart!" my mother exclaimed, "It's about time Ada gets into the Christmas spirit. She would love to help, wouldn't you darling?"
Before I could answer, my mother was looking expectedly at Harry; "Your parents are out of town for Christmas?"
He nodded.
"Well what do you have planned for the holidays then?"
"Actually, as it turns out, I don't have anywhere to go this Christmas," Harry looked down, swirling his coffee around in his cup.
"No where to go...? Did they just leave you high and dry?" I couldn't help but ask.
Harry chuckled, "My parents are originally from England, so they like to fly home for the holidays and see the relatives."
"Why aren't you flying home? Surely you wouldn't be intruding on your own family." My mother simply could not wrap her mind around the fact that this boy in front of us had been left to fend for himself at Christmas time and honestly, I couldn't blame her.
"Of course I'd be welcome," he smiled, "But I figured I'd give my mum and step-father a break from us kids."
"How could anyone leave a handsome young man like yourself alone for Christmas? That is completely asinine."
"You'd think they'd pay a little more attention to my whereabouts considering I'm the one always getting into trouble," Harry rolls his eyes as I try to hide my smile behind my coffee cup. "But don't worry, I'll find somewhere to go," he winked at her.
The blush on my cheeks burned even brighter once my mother opened her mouth, "We can't have that; it's Christmas for Christ's sake!"
"Mother!" my eyes widened.
"You are coming with us, I will not have a you wandering around the city during the holidays, no sir. You will stay with us."
"Mom, he doesn't even know us, how can you expect-"
"That would be lovely, actually," Harry's small smile was so genuine, it made my heart melt. I felt sorry for the poor guy, being left alone. But it did strike me as odd, considering he could literally do anything else for Christmas and yet he accepted my mother's intrusive offer. However, I can't deny the fact that this was going to make for one interesting Christmas.
