Hisfus constantly checked her watch. Today was April 8th, her 22nd birthday, and the day of a total solar eclipse. It was a sad day for her, for she believed that solar eclipses foreshadowed something bad. She paced around her room, dreading 3:00 and checking her watch frequently. Then she heard a knock on her door.
"It's open! Come in!" Hisfus yelled.
She listened as her front door creaked open, then shut with a slam. She heard voices approaching her door, but she couldn't quite make out what they were saying. Her door slammed open and she heard the excited shouts and screams of her friends.
"OMG, Hisfus, are you excited? The eclipse is in totality here! People are watching down by the mall, and in Westerville!" Charia screamed almost incoherently and way too fast for anyone she wasn't close to to understand.
"We're watching in my backyard. We're going to have burgers and chips to eat while watching, so don't eat too much. Make sure you don't overeat," Seansera shouted, almost too loud for anyone who didn't know him to tolerate.
"Hiss, after the eclipse we're watching movies at Seansera's house! We're watching A Quiet Place by the request of Charia, San Andreas by the request of Seansera, Solo, which I requested, and any movie you want to watch," Indexofnamesbecauseiranout tried to scream, but was muffled by all her makeup.
The three continued to talk over each other, too focused on the eclipse to notice the absolute horror on Hisfus' face. This wasn't because of the solar eclipse. This was because three people kicked open her door and started yelling at her. She expected her friends to streamline in and shout at her one by one before they start yelling over each other, which usually results in them gradually getting louder until one of them just screams.
"Are you coming?" the three said in unison, still way too excited.
Hisfus let out the most terrifying, ear piercing scream known to man, gradually getting louder until her throat hurt. She stopped to breath, then screamed again. Whilst screaming, she pulled out a makeup removing wipe and wiped all of Indexofnamesbecauseiranout's makeup off. After that she finally stopped screaming.
"Okay. I'm done." Hisfus said calmly. "And, no. I'm not going."
"Why?" Indexofnamesbecauseiranout asked.
"I don't want to go blind." Hisfus responded.
"We have proper sun protection," Seansera said. "And even if we didn't, the sun can't cause blindness. Only severe eye damage."
"Only severe eye damage," Hisfus repeated emphasizing the "only".
"Good point," Charia said. "But we have proper protection from the sun."
"But don't you know that eclipses foreshadow something bad?" Hisfus said.
Seansera, Indexofnamesbecauseiranout, and Charia stared at Hisfus for a few seconds before bursting out into laughter. Hisfus blushed and looked at the floor. The laughter stopped and all eyes were on her.
"Wait, you really believe that?" Indexofnamesbecauseiranout asked.
Hisfus avoided eye contact and nodded slightly. Charia pet her softly. There was just a small moment of silence as the three friends pitied the poor fool.
Charia finally broke the silence, saying, "You're going, Hiss. You need to get this silly thought out of your head."
Hisfus didn't fight back. She didn't want to delay her friends any longer. She just wanted to get through the day.
In what seemed like one second, the friends arrived at Seansera's house. Seansera cooked some burgers, Charia poured the chips into a bowl, and Indexofnamesbecauseiranout kept hisfus from leaving. Hisfus was shaking fiercely out of fear and kept looking around for a way to escape. She began to whisper like a mad woman and say crazy things, like "Nature's been disturbed" and "it's all catching fire". Indexofnamesbecauseiranout hugged her and whispered in her ear, rocking her back and forth to get her to calm down. Charia handed out special glasses used to protect their eye from the sun.
"It's almost time!" she announced. "Be ready for chillier winds, and a hole in the sky!"
Seansera handed out the burgers to everyone and Indexofnamesbecauseiranout handed out bowls of chips. Seansera quickly went inside and got a few blankets. He handed them out to everyone and laid one out for the four friends to eat on.
As the eclipse started, Hisfus started to shake faster. Indexofnamesbecauseiranout wrapped her arm around Hisfus and gently rocked her. Hisfus took a few deep breaths and shook Indexofnamesbecauseiranout's arm off. She slowly leaned forwards as they saw the Baily's Beads, and started to jump a little when she saw the celestial ring.
After the eclipse, Hisfus had finally calmed down and the four went inside. Charia snuck up from behind and covered her eyes , carefully guiding her to Seansera's dining room. All the lights were off. The only light there was were small flames. Seansera, Charia, and Indexofnamesbecauseiranout started to sing happy birthday.
"Make a wish, Hiss," Charia said quietly.
Hisfus thought for a second, then closed her eyes and blew the candles out. All the lights went on, revealing a small set-up with presents on one table and a small place to watch movies and play games in the living room.
"Index, Sean, Chira! Thank you, so much!" Hisfus pretty much screamed.
"I'm glad you like it." Indexofnamesbecauseiranout said.
"I had to miss totality for this." Seansera complained playfully.
"It's okay, Sean." Hisfus said, smirking "If we eat the whole cake today, you might be able to see another."
The End.
