"Today's shift is going to be brutal," I say as I walk past Stefan to grab my coffee mug.

"Why's that?" He asks as he comes up behind me and wraps his arms around me.

The view of our backyard can be seen from the kitchen window. I've always wanted a big yard and lots of privacy like this.

"Well Mandy transferred to a different hospital. So we are having to cover all her old patients until we get a new resident. Plus I'm working 12 hours today, and that's if I don't get asked to work late."

I feel his breathe on my neck as he speaks.

"I'll come have lunch with you today. And don't worry about groceries, I'll pick them up when I get off," he replies as I feel his hands rub up my arms.

"I'll see you later, baby," I say as I give him a quick kiss and start out the door.

"See you then," he says with a wink.

And the day begins.

I'm two hours away of getting off work when my boss ask me to stay. It's pretty hard to say no.

I call to tell Stefan I'll be home late. After a few rings, I hear his voicemail.

"Hey it's Stefan. I'll call back later. "

He usually answers his phone, especially since he should be off anytime now.

I brush it off and continue working. I'm sure he just has his ringer off.

Four hours later, I'm finally on my way home. I tried calling Stefan again, but still, no answer.

I reach the house and see his car parked in the driveway.

"Stefan, I'm home," I call as I walk inside and put my keys down. I walk into the living room expecting to find him on the couch. But he's not there.

I continue calling his name as I walk up the stairs. As I reach our bedroom, I open the door. I recognize the smell; burbon.

I flip the light on to find him passed out in bed. What is he thinking?

I take his shoes off and pull the blankets over him. He seemed fine at lunch, but came home to do this.

I'm too tired to think about this.

The next morning, I hear him coming down the stairs.

"Hey.. sorry I didn't wait up for you," he says as he walks past me. "I had a long day and time just kinda slipped away," he says as he leans in for a kiss.

I pull away and try not to catch eye contact. I'm still a little mad.

I see the confusion on his face. It's as if he has no idea why I'd be bothered by this.

"You got drunk and passed out. I'd say 'a long day' is an understatement."

"I'm sorry-" he starts but I turn the other way.

"Hey," I feel him softly grab my hand.

I turn to look at him. His beautiful brown eyes. I can see the intensity in his face, "I'm sorry. I mean it. I should've been more cautious with the drinking. I'll be more careful, okay?" He says with sincerity.

"Okay, I was just worried about you. I couldn't get ahold of you. "

"I know. My phone was on vibrate. I'm sorry, Baby. " He leans in to kiss my forehead.

I close my eyes and feel his touch on my skin. It's enough to let all my worries slip away.

The next few days pass with no problems. Stefan is happy, I'm happy, and things are going good. Or so I thought.
