A call came through to Detective Packer's office.
She picked up the line. "Hello-" Suddenly, she could hear the sounds of screams and fast footsteps.
Another shooting.
She put the phone down and put on her bullet proof vest and utility belt, then left with a few more officers.
It was a local subway, the people taken hostage.
Emma pulled out her radio and turned it on. "Block off all possible exits and radio the K-9s."
The men nodded and did so, swat was on their way.
Emma got out and made her way in cautiously.
All of the civilian were huddled in a corner, two little girls crying over what looked like their mother who got shot.
She looked and saw no shooter. They were most likely hiding.
They didn't seem to be hiding anywhere.
She gave in and quickly walked over to them.
A woman motioned with her eyes to the kitchen.
She eyed the kitchen.
There was the faint sound of a gas stove turned on. You can't fire now, or the whole place will blow.
She swallowed and looked down at her taser.
Stupid terrorists. Surprisingly they were all straight white Christian man. And what would you know it, these are also the terrorists.
She lead the hostages out and watched as the swat team and K-9 units were sent in.
They were stopped before they could kill themselves.
She stood there shaken a bit.
One of the officers came up to her "You Alright Packer?"
She nodded slowly, watching as each of the terrorists were walked out of the building.
"It's a pity of how many shootings there are." He said watching the mother being loaded into the ambulance, the children being taken to the station.
"Yeah..."
"I can't help but wonder why."
Emma looked up slightly, watching the officers and ambulances around them. "Because the world is becoming more violent and terrifying as days pass."
He nodded "I can't help but wonder what good people see in it."
She nodded in agreement and yawned.
He looked at his watch "looks like your shift is over. Wanna get coffee?"
"No thanks. I'm just gonna head home."
He nodded "see you tomorrow then."
She waved and went back to the station then headed home.
It was a quiet drive. Nothing really to do.
She made a face and called a close friend.
They picked up.
"Hey Emilie."
"Hey." She replied through the phone. They sounded tired, but that was normal.
"I just finished my shift. Wanna go out and do something?" She suggested, knowing how much Emilie had been staying in doors recently.
There was a pause "I would Love to, but I don't think I can."
Emma sighed. "Alright... I'll call you later then."
