Cortni walked through the front door of her house to see Dylan in the living room. He seemed to be engrossed in scribbling down notes into the book he had on the table in front of him. The way his brows frowned when he looked perplexed made Cortni chuckle.

"I didn't hear you come in. You creeped me out." Dylan spoke, startlingly. His hair formed curls around his adorable face.

"You were too sucked up in whatever you are doing."Cortni defended.

"Aaargh!" Dylan groaned. "I've got an assignment on Math and it's a killer." He raised the books he had from the table and showed Cortni.

"Whatever it is, I'm sure you'll get through, Dylan. Where's Amber anyways?" Cortni asked, suddenly realizing her absence.

"She's probably in her room doing homework or something." Dylan replied. He returned his attention back to the books and began scribbling more notes into them.

Cortni went up the stairs into her room. She took a shower, after which she changed into a sweatshirt and black jogging pants. She went over Amber's room next to hers. Cortni opened the door to reveal Amber lying on her bed, looking sombre. Little tears seemed to trickle down her face as she stared at the ceiling above.

"Amber, you look miserable. What's wrong?" Cortni asked. Amber sat up, startled by the voice coming from her doorway.

"Hey. . . Cortni. I'm fine, really." Amber wiped the tears away with the back of her hands. She tried to put up a fake smile but failed.

"I didn't hear you come in. You certainly should not sneak up on me like that."

"I didn't sneak up on you, Amber." Cortni walked into the room and helped herself unto the comfy bed.

"And I know you're not okay. So are you gonna tell me about it?" Amber glanced into those eyes, squinted with sisterly concern that prompted her to give in.

"It's Harvey."

"Harvey, your boyfriend?" Amber nodded in affirmation.

"What about him?" Cortni queried on.

Amber sighed. "I saw him sneaking into the girls restroom at school today. He was with Lydia, my supposed best friend. So I followed them out of suspicion. And guess what I saw?"

Cortni shrugged. "What could that be?"

"Harvey and Lydia were kissing and smooching. And when I confronted them," Amber sniffed, trying to hold back the tears welled up in her eyes.

"He barked at me and said it was over between us . . . that . . . that I wasn't his type anymore." Amber finally gave in, tears pouring down her cheeks.

"Oooh, Amber . . . I'm so sorry that happened." Cortni consoled, bringing her arms around her in a cuddle.

"He made me feel like a toy thing -- to be used and dumped when . . . when tired of it. I hate him for what he's done to me. I hate him!" Amber sobbed, uncontrollably.

"He's made it crystal clear he's over with you and so should you. Move on and I'm sure you'll find someone much more better than that jerk, Harvey. Someone who'll deserve you. Besides," Cortni wiped off a tear with her thumb. "He doesn't realise he's lost a fortune. C'mon. Cheer up for me, will you?" Cortni teased. Slowly, a smile crept onto her face, her lips curling upwards.

"Thanks Cortni. You're wonderful."

"Anytime." Cortni said as she got up to her feet. "Care to join me in making dinner, mom's gonna be home anytime soon?"

"Sure thing." Amber replied as she stood up. Her once saddened face, alive with happiness. And together, they left the room.

Evening had quickly come and the Normans were having dinner, complete. After that, they had a hearty conversation, lively with chattering and laughter. Even though Janette's work kept her long hours away from home, she managed to find time for her children. Tired and dizzy, they all retire for a good night's sleep.
