CHAPTER TWO
BOND
“You are so scared to hurt yourself to the point that you push him away to save yourself, without knowing that you’re scarring yourself more.”
She didn’t answer.
“Pero wala na, e. There’s no point for what-ifs. There’s no point in wishing. Wala ng magagawa ‘yung mga sana kasi wala na. Kasi noong nasa harapan mo, tinulak mo. Ngayon wala na, iniiyakan mo.”
I was adding more fuel to the pain of fire that she is feeling. No water could save her right now because the water that she thought would be her savior turned out to be a gas.
“Pero... kahit bigyan ako ng pagkakataong bumalik sa past, hindi ko pa rin ilalaban. Kasi... takot pa rin ako. Duwag pa rin ako.”
Every word that came out from her mouth tasted sour.
When she thought that being in a state of coma was the hardest thing that life could offer, she felt another pang of pain.
“Mags, I won’t tell you to just move forward because I know that it’s not that easy. You can cry. Crying doesn’t mean you’re weak. Crying forever does.”
I wasn’t the best advice giver, but I could promise her that I will never stop offering my shoulder for her. I can always be the shelter that she needs, but I can never be her water.
Because that water that would heal her... is herself.
We spent five hours talking about her heartbreak before we decided to end the call. It was a Saturday and it was supposed to be my rest day, but it turns out that it’s another tiring day because I will probably think about Maggie the whole day.
I probably won’t understand anything if I get a book and read. All that’s on my mind is Maggie’s situation.
I was staring at the wall when I suddenly heard knocks. Knocks, not from the door, but from the wall.
My forehead ceased. “Text!”
I rolled my eyes and chose to ignore the guy beside my condo unit.
This condominium that I am renting has low quality. Hindi kagandahan at kaayusan pero dahil masyadong mataas ang presyo ng ibang unit, I ended here.
And I don’t understand how a rich guy like him ended in a condo like this. He said that it was because other condos are full. I doubt that.
I mean, if I was as rich as him, I wouldn’t settle for this.
I don’t think he’s rich to the point that he can buy everything that he wants, but enough for a decent life. And this is definitely not a decent life.
“Text! Text! Text!” he said those repeatedly. He even said those words with a tone of music.
Out of annoyance, I chose to open the text he was talking about.
It says, pengeng pagkain.
Ang yaman-yaman pero kung makahingi ng pagkain ‘to akala mo ‘di pinapakain, a!
Hinampas ko rin iyong pader. “Bumili ka!” I shouted.
“Dahil ikaw ang nagbibigay ng pagkain ko, ikaw ang nagbibigay ng pagkain ko, ang nais ko ay bigyan mo,” he sang in the tune of the song “Dahil Sa ‘Yo”.
