Carrie had awoken covered in dirt. Normally, she would have been disgusted in the state she was in but all that was on her mind as she got out of bed was that Tristan was gone. It hadn't felt real until they sent him off at the funeral service. Carrie's throat was sore to all the sobbing from the night prior. She felt parched and suddenly felt the need to swallow a gallon of water. Carrie felt no need to eat or take care of hygiene, all that she wanted was to be swallowed up by the floor. For the next few hours, Carrie wallowed in self-pity and bawled until no tears were left.
She screamed and cussed at the unfairness of life before being interrupted by a knock on the door.
"It's the police open up" a voice on the other side of the door bellowed. Carrie opened the door unbeknown to the events that were soon going to unfold. The second the door opened police officers and detectives rushed it. "Search this place and find evidence" a detective who seemed to be the leader of the investigation commanded before walking towards Carrie and pulling out a set of handcuffs. "You are under arrest on the suspicion of attempted murder. You have the right to an attorney, if you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. You have the right to remain silent anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law" the detective informed Carrie of her Miranda rights before cuffing her and dragging her to the police vehicle and had her seated.
Before very long they had arrived at the police station and had her seated in the interrogation room.
Outside of the interrogation room a timer had been set to 48 hours. Its seemed that the detectives had no evidence that Carrie attempted to murder Emily as they had 48 hours to find the evidence before having to release her.
Seated in the interrogation room Carrie yawned seemingly fatigued from the events that had occurred the night before. She was bewildered and shocked due to her swift arrest. She had nothing to do besides wait on the detectives who will question her on her crimes. Before very long the detective walked in and sat in front of her. "I think you may need this" the detective said giving her a coffee.
"Where were you on the night dating the 6th of October 2018?" the detective began the interrogation.
"I was at home sleeping" Carrie replied nonchalantly.
"Do you have anyone that can back up your alibi?" the detective who was called Detective Charles asked.
Carrie shook her head instead of replying, she seemed way too relaxed for someone suspected of attempted murder.
Upon hearing her reply the detective turned around and walked out. He then ordered a fellow operative to check CCTV cameras for her whereabouts on the estimated time of the crime.
The detective then returned to the interrogation room.
"Under what reasonable grounds are you arresting an innocent person?" Carrie inquired raising her voice slightly in anger.
"We have reasons to believe that you attempted to murder Emily Davison" Detective Charles responded.
"And what reasons do you have?"
"You have the motive and we have witnesses that have witnessed you aggressively assault her"
"But assault is different than attempted murder"
"Some people can't control the actions that anger instigates. You assaulted her, who's to say you wouldn't try to kill her" the detective looked up at her.
"Who are the witnesses?" Carrie queried, before suddenly recalling prior events.
"I cannot give away the witnesses identities for their protection"
"Okay, but what motive do I have in attempting to kill her?"
"She was extremely close to your brother and she was at the scene when he was murdered but she survived. That is a clear motive." Detective Charles explained.
"If I really did commit this crime do you really think that I would go to prison for at least 10 years without actually killing her. I would've got the job done." Carrie seemed extremely psychotic with this reply.
Detective Charles didn't know what to say so he stayed silent. Before long the silence enveloped the room and the two were left staring at each other, thinking of what to say next.
"How was she attacked?" Carrie asked curiously.
"She was stabbed" Detective Charles answered honestly.
"How many times was she stabbed and where was she stabbed?"
"She was stabbed one in her lower abdomen " He didn't understand why she was asking or where the conversation was going.
"I couldn't have stabbed her because first I wasn't there. Second of all, if someone wants revenge the number of stab wounds would probably be more than 7 and lastly if I wanted to kill someone the best place to go for is the heart, lungs or jugular vein. Normally stabbings in the lower abdomen don't result in death. Therefore, it was probably a warning." Carrie seemed to have analysed the case well even without a case file or forensic report or even witness statements.
"Good point" The detective looked slightly flustered and didn't seem to know what to do.
He stood up in such haste that his chair fell to the ground. He quickly left the room. Detective Charles walked out and told the rest of the detectives to reanalyse the case.
Carrie instantly knew the reason for Emily being stabbed. She had always known that Emily wasn't a good person, but no matter how much she had tried to convince Tristan to leave her he still wouldn't. It's as if she had a spell on him, like he couldn't cope with not being around her. But all because he hadn't listened to Carrie he was murdered by Emily's cronies. Emily was part of something that no one should ever be part of. It's as if Emily is the epitome of evil. She was part of a notorious gang that Tristan knew of but didn't dare mention to Emily in hopes she would wake up someday and stop her involvement in it. The biggest problem that should arise upon ceasing her involvement with the gang is not the fact that they brand you , but the fact that even after being branded they still feel the need to warn her not to stab them in the back. Carrie's instincts were telling her that Tristan's murder is one of the many warnings Emily shall receive.
A few hours later, the detective returned with a downcast expression.
"Detective Charles, basing on your expression I can tell you are incredibly embarrassed upon arresting an innocent civilian." Carrie looked smug as she said this.
"I am afraid that you are completely wrong in that and are terrible at reading people's expressions. As a matter of fact we currently have more evidence proving you guilty than evidence proving you innocent. Therefore, your analysis has been disproved." Upon hearing the detective's reply Carrie's smug expression fell off her face and was henceforth replaced with a crestfallen expression.
"So, do you have enough evidence for me to get convicted?" Carrie asked, with every word uttered and every silent second her hope was slowly drained and she was left with no hope at all. She'd just have to cope with prison life even though she didn't even deserve it. She'd have to go to prison for attempted murder on Emily that she didn't even instigate. If she'd really have endure prison life for that then she wishes that she really did kill Emily. She wishes that Emily was wiped off of the face of the earth. She's never properly thought about committing murder until this moment. All because of an arrest based on pure speculation on an innocent member of the public, they turned a perfectly stable and beautiful woman into someone who thinks about the pain of others and receives pleasure from it.
After a few minutes of silence the detective began, "I am sorry to say but the amount of evidence we have is...."
