In a village called Wheat, a pair of three year-olds were seen running around, laughing happily. The chestnut-haired girl was called Emilia, or as everyone called her, Emmy. She was a very bright and kind child, but she was quite naughty as well. She loved pranking people, and because of her imaginative mind, she had many ways to do so. Her coal-colored eyes sparkled as she did so.

The blond  boy was called Bonta, or Bonny, which Emilia calls him, and he was a strong-willed child with a toothy smile. His emerald eyes had a glint of stupidity in them, but he wasn't too dense. He hated doing chores, but if his mother wanted so, he'd do it without batting an eye. He really respected his mother and never acted against her words.

The children had met one day when Bonta had moved to the village from a city when his parents had divorced. He was classed as a commoner, and he was one of the rare ones who could do magic: fire-type magic.

Emilia was villager class, but she loved farming and carrying heavy things because they helped her get stronger. Emilia's wish was being able to help anyone and everyone, and in order to do that, she needed to get stronger.

The two were known by everyone in the village, which was considered a large one compared to other villages, for both their helpfulness and their pranks. The reason they were running then was because of the latter.

"Emilia! Bonta! You little brats! Come here right now!" cried out Madam Witz, the owner of the bar 'Witz's', one of the two bars in the village. She was a kind woman, but had the bad habit of getting drunk before it was even afternoon.

Emilia turned her head back and stuck her tongue out with a grin afterwards.

"In your dreams, Madam Witless!" she shouted back. "You'll have to catch us first!" Just as she said that, they turned a corner and came to an alleyway. It was a dead end.

Emilia turned to Bonta.

"Our luck's out, Bonny." Bonta sighed.

"Dammit."

。。。

An hour later they were still getting scolded by their mothers. While Bonta's mother was divorced, Emilia's mother was a widow. His father had passed away from an illness a year earlier. He was a very kind and helpful man, but because he had worked to hard for the village, he had over-exhausted himself and passed away from a serious cold.

Emilia sighed.

"Is it really necessary to scold us like this, Mother, Auntie?" Bonta nodded his head in agreement.

"Yes, you know that Emmy and I are going to do this again, don't you?" He was rewarded with a bonk to his head, and cried out in pain.

Emilia laughed at that.

"Still, you should've seen Miss Witless' face when the toad crawled out of her beer!" she exclaimed, and both the children laughed, the horror written on the woman's face coming back to their minds.

Marinda, Emilia's mother, tutted.

"You know, it's not nice to call someone names." she said with a sigh. "I've told you many times already." Bonta pouted.

"But Aunty, we all know that she doesn't have any wits! We're just telling the truth!" Aya, Bonta's mother bonked him on the head again, making him whine.

"The truth hurts sometimes, you know." she lectured. She did  use to be a teacher after all. "You should'a just keep it to youselves."

"She always laughs it off, though." muttered Bonta. Aya raised an eyebrow.

"What was that?" Bonta's eyes widened in fear.

"Nothing, Mommy." he cried out, waving his arms around nervously. "I didn't say anything!"

。。。

After the mothers were satisfied, the pair ran away to the outer section of the village. There was a rocky  mountain, leading to a river there. They hopped from rock to rock for exercise, and reached the river quickly. They always did this after getting lectured.

When they reached the river, Emilia sat down on a rock, and took of her shoes, dipping her feet in the water with a sigh. It was mid-summer, and the heat was agonizing.

Bonta sat down next to her, doing the same thing. They sat in silence for a while, then Emilia turned to Bonta.

"Hey Bonta, if you tried, vcould you light up some of the plants in the water before the fire disappears?" she asked.

Bonta shook his head.

"You know I only awakened my flames a few weeks ago. The most I can do is form a small fireball." Emilia hummed.

"You should be grateful." she muttered with a sigh. "I wish I could do magic too. I'm a villager though, so that's not gonna happen."

Bonta looked at her sad expression with a frown.

"Well, maybe you will!" he said, trying to cheer her up. "Maybe you'll be the only villager to gain the ability to do magic! If a villager was to do so, it'd be you, Emmy!"

Emilia chuckled sadly.

"Thanks, Bonny." she said, looking up at him gratefully. Bonta was a great friend who supported her all the time. She really liked that about him.

They were quiet for a moment, then Bonta pointed at the river.

"Look, there's some dayfish! Let's catch and roast some!" he cried out, and a second later, he was in the water, trying to run against the water coming to his waist, swinging his arms around and splashing water everywhere.

Emilia froze, then started laughing.

"Sure!" She jumped in after him, scaring the life out of the poor dayfish, and starting chasing after him with a bright smile.

。。。

After a long while, Emilia and Bonta managed to trap a dayfish between them. Emilia reached in towards the fish, but just as she was about to touch it, it disappeared!

Emilia gazed wide-eyed as the fish suddenly appeared again, but swam away through her legs.

"W-what was that?" stuttered-out Emilia, slowly turning to Bonta, who wore the same expression, but seemed happier. "Fish can't do magic, can they?"

Bonta shook his head, then smiled widely.

"There's onky one explanation to that..." he exclaimed, then pointed at her. "Emmy, it was you! I am a fire wizard, so I can't do magic like that. Emmy, you can do magic!"

Emma's jaw dropped.

"..Eh?" was the only thing that came out of her mouth before she fainted right there, falling into the water.
