Chapter 1 "Summer Begins"

6/8/13

My name is Marianna, and I just turned fourteen today. My mom got me you as part of my birthday present. I've never had a diary or journal before so I'm probably going to be pretty bad at this, but let me start off by telling you about me. I don't really have a whole lot of friends besides my dog Hitch. Hitch is a three year old yellow lab. He's super smart and loyal, I love him! This is my second week living in Pennsylvania. I guess my mom thought writing in a journal would help me feel like I have a friend, but I don't need one, I have Hitch! I don't really like having friends, because all they do is stab you in the back. Of course I had a few back in New jersy. Though I haven't spoken to them since the day I moved. This is going to be a long summer.

6/9/13

Today I swam at Millers Pond with Hitch and my little brother, Matt. You'd think it would be filthy, but the waters deep and pretty clear. It's almost like a pool. I love swimming there! Mostly because dogs are allowed, but also because it's not crowded.

When I got home my mom was in the kitchen making her famous chocolate chip cookies! I knew this meant we were having company. I helped set the table and also made a salad for dinner. Then dad walked through the door with a friend. Dad introduced me to the man. His name was Drew, and his wife owns a dog kennel and shelter. Drew said I could apply to work there since I love dogs. I cant wait! Hitch is giving me the "rub my belly and come cuddle with me face." I guess this means I better go.

6/10/13

Its 12:00 pm and I can't find Hitch anywhere. He's not in the house or in the yard. Wait, I just heard mom yell at him. I better go check and make sure everything is okay.

I'm back! I went down stairs and found Hitch wearing his guilty face. I turned to mom, "what did he do?""He broke through his electric fence!", Mom said. I was surprised to hear that. Hitch is an incredibly loyal smart dog. Why would he run past the fence? Mom said he was probably chasing a bunny or somthing. I guess she's right, after all Labrador Retrievers are known for hunting down animals.

6/12/13

Its 1:00 in the morning, and I can't fall asleep. Sorry I didn't writeyesterday! I was really busy. I went to my uncle's house and we gardened, rode the four wheelers, went fishing, and had a big bonfire! I love bonfires, we eat smores, hotdogs. Then we told ghost stories. Hitch seemed to enjoy it too, mostly because he got a hotdog. Hitch played with my Uncle's dog "Macy" the entire time. They play pretty rough! It worries me sometimes.

At lunch my dad was saying we should get a black lab for Hitch. It could be his brother! Everyone agreed we should, even Matt. Of course my dad was only teasing. He always does that, gets everyones hopes up and then says he was kidding. I hate it. Hitch could really use a brother to play with, especially during the school year. Instead we decided we'd take him to a barbecue at my mom's friend Sharon's tommorrow. They have a dog too. She's a Samoyed named Diamond. They also have a pool and hot tub and I know Hitch will love the pool. Swimming is one of his favorite activities.

6/14/13

I just got back from the barbecue. It was so much fun! When we got there Matt and I jumped in the pool. Sharon's daughter Katherine was already in. Katherine and I are only a year a part, but I can't stand her. She's just a huge brat. Hitch and Diamond ran around the yard together till they were worn out. As soon as Hitch came over and saw the water he jumped in with us. He doggy paddled over to me and pushed me to the edge of the pool. Sharon's husband John said Hitch thought I was drowning. This is why I love Hitch, he'd save me before Matt or Katherine. Once Hitch realized we could swim he swam around with us. My dad through a beer can in the water to see if he would retrieve it. He did. He grabbed it with his mouth, swam to the stairs, got out of the pool, and dropped it at my dads feet. I told you he's smart. He also does this at home with the keys if you say "Keys". Anyway his teeth put tiny holes in the can which caused the beer to spray out of the can everywhere. We all laughed pretty hard at that. Diamond kept on sneezing cause she's allergic to it which made us laugh even harder. We stayed there till about ten pm. When we came home everyone showered and went to bed. We were all exsausted, even hitch who's snoring as loud as a trumpet under my bed. Well I better get some sleep, goodnight.

6/15/13

Today our neighbors invited us over to swim, they even said we could bring Hitch! Of course mom accepted the invite, she says its good to make as many friends as possible. I was tired of swimming, but Matt begged me to go so I did. When we got there it was a little awkward because we hardly knew these people. Hitch automatically jumped in their pool. Which they laughed at and said was okay. I guess Hitch was the big ice breaker, because after that everyone was talking and having a good time. I even made a friend! Her name is Raquel and she's my age, we have a lot in common. We both like dogs, tumbling, and we live in the same neighborhood! I guess I'm glad I went, because Raquel invited me over again tommorow!

6/16/13

I had a lot of fun at Raquel's today. We played games,watched movies, and swam. Raquel has one brother and one sister. Their both really nice and so are her parents. She also has two pet cats. Midnight, who's old and black with green eyes and Moglee, who I assume is a persian. He's white and a little bit grey with the biggest brightest blue eyes I ever seen!

6/17/13

Today my uncle came over with Macy his boxer. Hitch and Macy rough housed around in the yard for a while. The two of them came up to the kitchen door to get some water. When I let them in I noticed Hitch was limping around and only walking on three paws. I yelled for everyone and they all came in. "I guess they played too rough", said my Uncle. My mom agreed with him and went on to say, "Its probably just a sprain, we'll take him to the vet tomorrow and get it checked out ", I'm really worried. What if he has to get his leg removed or somthing? Okay I know I'm being a little over dramatic, but Hitch is my best friend in the entire world. I can't imagine life with out him.
