Chapter 2 "New Pets"

6/17/13

My mom is with Hitch at the vet right now. I wanted to come, but mom said it would be better to stay here. It's because wherever I go Matt has to come and that would be to many people. Matt is outside playing basketball right now and I'm inside doing nothing as usual. Raquel's at her Grandma's house today. they like to go boating together. I was invited, but I didn't want to intrude on her grandma's time with Raquel. I just heard the garage doors open. I think Mom's home.

Well I have good news and bad news. The good news is, Hitch won't have to get his leg removed! The bad news is, he tore his a.c.l, which is located somewhere in his knee. For a dog tearing their a.c.l is very painful and it takes a long time to heal. The vet said he's going to possibly need surgery if we really want his leg to heal correctly. Otherwise his leg will never be back to its full strength ever again. Mom and Dad carefully weighed the options. Honestly for me there was nothing to think about of course we should do the surgery, but dad convinced mom not to. Dad said the surgery is too much money and Hitch will just have to learn to deal with his leg. I'm so mad at dad I'm crying as I write this.

Hitch is still walking on three paws today, but he learned how to run three legged! I feel bad for him having to hold his leg up all the time. The most disgusting thing just happened. I was outside playing catch with Hitch and the ball landed over by my moms flowers. Hitch flung him self towards the ball, and he didn't come back. Instead he just sniffed the ground and started digging. I knew there was something he wanted. Maybe an old bone or toy, so I grabbed the shovel and dug with him. Thats when I saw a nest of baby moles. I yelled for mom while Hitch swallowed them one by one. By the time mom came over, Hitched had devoured all of them, at least all he could find. It was so gross, I can't believe he would do that.

6/19/13

Today I went over to Raquel's. She got a new pet hamster and so did her brother. They were so cute! It reminded me of the baby moles in the garden. When I got home I asked mom if I could have a pet hamster too. She talked to dad and they both agreed if I save up the money I could get one! I better keep it far away from Hitch though. I'm looking out my window right now and hitch is digging around the stone bench by our huge maple tree. I better go stop him.

As you can imagine there was no stopping Hitch. I pulled at his collar and called him. I got hotdogs and everything, but he wouldn't come. He found a new nest. I pushed him as hard as I could away but of course he didn't budge. Hitch is a huge dog he's about 110 pounds. He isn't fat He's just a big dog! He's becoming more of a hunting dog everyday. None of us hunt so it's not a trait working in our favor.

I just counted out all the birthday money I had saved and it's just enough for a hamster and all of it's needs. Mom, Matt, and I drove out to the pet store and I picked out a cute little grey one. When we got home I had Raquel over. Raquel was really scared of Hitch I guess cause he's such a big dog, but she warmed up to him and they became pretty good friends. We played with my new hamster for a while. After a little Raquel had to go to the bathroom. I opened my bedroom door to show her where it was and Hitch came charging through to see the newest member of the family. Hitched understood that this hamster was not a snack so he pawed at it instead. I was not expecting that at all! My poor hamsters nose was bleeding and he wasn't moving. Hitch had scared the living life out of him. I screamed at Hitch and I screamed at my self. How could I be so stupid. My brother now calls me the hamster murderer. Mom and I buried him in the front yard under the pine tree.

I don't want a new hampster. I just want my old one, but that was surely not happening. I gave all the hamster supplies to matt and he bought one instead. Hitch never goes in Matt's room so it's probably the safest room to have a hamster.

6/24/14

Dad noticed that Hitch was walking on all fours today. He still has this really weird limp though. Raquel asked her mom and dad for a dog of her own and they said yes. Which really surprised me. My parents would never say yes that easily. Raquel has a really nice house and yard which leads me to think their a bit more wealthy than we are. She has a million toys and she gets whatever she wants. I like her family a lot. I wish my family was like that. I'm happy she's getting a dog. The love between a human and their dog is undescribable. Although I know her dog won't be as nearly great as mine.

Raquel got her new dog today! His name's Jackson and he's a King Charles Cavalier. I have to admit he's really cute and he gets along with the cats fine! The cats actually treat him like he's one of them. I went home for lunch and ended up going to Millers Pond with Hitch. Luckily I was able to sneak past Matt and avoid taking him with us. Whenever theres other people at the pond they always go on about how good of a dog Hitch is and how they want one like him. You could say Hitch is pretty popular here!
