I sat alone in the park, which wasn't a problem. I wouldn't want anyone to rat on me smoking. I took a puff in with my cigarette and let it out seconds later, in one large breath.

"Hey!"

I turned around, startled, only to find it was my best friend, Grace.

"Fuck off, you scared me."

She laughed and came over to sit on the swing next to mine. I offered her a cigarette and she took it without hesitation, leaning in for me to light it.

"So what is it today?" She asked.

"Gio and my father," I confessed. "There's only so much of this that a woman can take."

Grace immediately understood, though she had never been through it. She was good in that sort of sense. She never went through losing her mother, but always comforted me no matter what. Grace was beautiful in every way that someone can be beautiful. As if her parents knew this when they named her, she's always had a sort of grace with her. She has long, brown hair, and it shines like the sun. Her smile is beautiful, and she's always tan. I have always looked up to her and thought that she was beautiful and elegant, as well as intelligent.

"What did Gio do today?" She asked. Grace genuinely cares about everything that I do and go through.

"I spent the night at his house last night and he made me leave at 11:30 in the morning. I don't care that he made me leave, it was his reasoning upon the subject. He told me he had a barbecue that his mom was making him go to. He's 17, his mom never makes him go to that type of thing."

I tried my hardest to explain to her that I thought he was lying and that he may be a dirty cheat.

"Lane, I'm sure he isn't lying to you. He probably actually has to go to a barbecue. He loves you, and he shows it too."

Grace always disliked Gio. She knew he would hurt me, and I'm finally starting to believe her.

"Lane. It's okay. Why don't we head to Andrews to have a few drinks? It'll take the pain of all of this away."

We started walking to Andrews house, he only lived a few blocks away from the park. We got to his doorstep and I knocked on his door. The six-foot beauty opened the door and invited us both in. His parents were out, and he had a large array of alcohols in the cabinet. I grabbed a bottle of corona and started to let my body go into the night.
