It didn't look like winter, and it barely felt like it. Maybe it was her lack of effort decorating the house. Maybe it was the fact that it wasn't even cold or hadn't snowed yet. Or maybe it was the missing scent of freshly baked gingerbread cookies or peppermint canes. She wasn't so sure.
Himiko had tried her best to bring joy and spirituality to the season. Christmas had always been a very special day for her and her mother. They'd bake sugar cookies together, knit some ugly sweaters to wear, decorate the Christmas tree, and watch Christmas movies until they fell asleep, it was all fun. She wanted to feel that magical feeling of Christmas, but whatever she tried just didn't work.
Himiko knew there was something wrong. After baking a batch of ugly looking gingerbread cookies, and trying her best to wrap some presents and then ripping the paper, she gave up. She just didn't feel like it anymore. She dressed up in a blue loose tank top and a pair of red boy shorts. She'd be usually be wearing her magician clothes and hat, or her school uniform, but she chose to dress comfy whenever no one was around.
Himiko then popped up a a bag of microwave popcorn, turned on the living room TV and sat down to watch a movie. There was nothing to do. No matter how hard she worked, there was something missing. Himiko and her mother would usually watch Christmas movies during that season, but Himiko didn't really feel like it. She went on to Netflix and then clicked on one of her favorite movies.
Knock! Knock!
"Huh?" Himiko suddenly spoke up. "Who could it be know, nyeh... " Himiko slowly stood up, putting the bag of microwave popcorn on the coffee table. She lazily walked over to the door and twisted the doorknob pulling it open. It was freezing cold outside, especially with the clothes she was wearing. Oh is she could only be wearing her warm and cozy magician cape!
"Surprise!" There standing was the familiar and recognizable purple-head liar, Kokichi Oma. He had a very wide smile on his face, something that always stood out about Kokichi and something Himiko sort of liked. He wasn't wearing his usual clothes either and instead was dressed in a. The red jacket was really big on him, laying loose over his body. She had to admit that he looked quite funny.
"What are you doing here, Kokichi?" Himiko asked. It was actually really cold outside, and Himiko began to hug herself trying to keep herself warm.
"Well you know, the usual," Kokichi replied with his signature grin.
"So is dressing up as Santa Claus and visiting me the usual?"
Kokichi laughed a bit. "No. I just came to check on my favorite magician, you know?" Favorite magician? Kokichi was actually one of the first ones to laugh at her whenever
she spoke about magic. He'd call her an useless witch and always joke around with her. Why was he suddenly being so nice to her?
As if having been invited, Kokichi stepped right inside the house. Himiko would've of have usually pushed him aside, or tell her to not get into her business (because she was way too lazy to shout). But this time she didn't even move and silently watched him get into her living room and lay himself down on the couch.
"Ahhh, it's so warm in here," Kokichi said as he began stretching his arms and legs out on the couch. "I guess it's normal for such a lazy witch like you to have such a comfortable house, huh?""I am not lazy. It's just that my MP lowers down easily," Himiko explained.
"If you are such a powerful witch-"
"I prefer to be called a mage, please."
"Well if you are such a powerful mage then why does your MP lower down so easily?"
Kokichi asked with an innocent yet intriguing look on his face.
"It's way too complicated to explain," Himiko said. She felt way too tired to even try to
explain anything to him, and she knew he'd just come up with more and more questions, so she just left it at that.
"Ok...?" Kokichi drifted his attention to the other side of the room. All the room was decorated with Christmas ornaments, but it just looked way off. The decorations didn't seem to be on the right spot.
"You know, my house is decorated way more prettier than yours," he told her. "It has more lights and that warm Christmas feeling. But of course, it's all thanks to my love organization with over ten thousand members that helped me."
Himiko closed the door shut, and then slid down next to Kokichi. "I didn't know you celebrated Christmas."
"Well, I do. I was actually going on my way to go to visit Maki. She's holding a Christmas festival for the kids on her orphanage. That's why I am wearing this funny costume. I guess I don't look much like a leader in this costume, do I?"
"Is that a lie, Kokichi?" she asked.
"Nope."
She laid back, closing her eyes shut. "Christmas is not the same without my mother, we
always used to do so much different things together and this year is just bland, and I am super lonely...nyeh. " She sighed.
There was a moment of silence. Even as social as Kokichi was, there was silent for once. Just Himiko breathing out and in, and Kokichi just staring at her.
"You know, I mean, if you want too, I could spend Christmas with you."
"Huh?"
"I usually spend Christmas with my organization, but since you are so lonely, I guess I
could be here with you." Himiko opened her eyes and looked up at him. He had his usual naughty smile on his face, yet it seemed so heartwarming.
"Not a lie?" "Not a lie."
