8 Years Later

Pain...pain is all I feel. The loud voices of my parents echo throughout the halls as they argue back and forth. Slowly it has been getting worse. My father constantly insulting me and my mother and my mother growing tired of his constant bad mood. Whoever said "It's not easy being king." was a liar. It's not easy being a queen or a princess. I sit in my room still wearing my sleepwear. I'm trying to ignore the conversation by practicing my shooting. Ever since I was a little girl I loved building. The thrill of conducting experiments and performing tests entertained me, and the best part was, I was the only child who could do it. Many called me a genius and unique and said the kingdom could use a bright girl like me. They said I would grow up to do big things. My most recent contraption I created is a small handheld weapon capable of launching small projectiles at high speeds. So far it is one of my favorite projects and I decided to name it the K-8 which stands for Katherine, Age 8. But the practice session didn't last long. I became distracted by banging and slamming coming from my parents' bedroom. I went to make sure they we're okay but was surprised by my mother throwing her possessions into cases. After she finished she ran past me heading straight for the front gate. Before she could get through the doors I was able to stop her by getting hold of her wrist. "Mother, what are you doing?". " Katherine I cannot take anymore of your father's stubbornness!". "What are you saying?". " I-I'm leaving, Katherine. I'm sorry but I have to get out of here. I don't want to leave you but I think you can take care of yourself.". "But where will you go!?". "I'm going to leave Crona. I'm going to leave the kingdom entirely and live outside the walls.". " But it's dangerous! You could die out there!". "Don't worry Kat...I know what I'm doing.". She opened the gate and began to walk down the street, slowly disappearing into the city. Rain began to fall and I heard a scream. It sounded like someone being murdered but then I realized, it was me, crying for my mother to come back.
