Part 2

8 Years Later

After 8 long years I finally decided to give up. Every single day I would ask the guards to tell me if they saw my mother, but it was like she became invisible...or worse. I miss her so much since she was one of the only people who understood me. We both loved to learn and invent, and even though it was frowned upon for women to do, we always played games and did crazy, dangerous things. Ever since she left I try to stay away from home as much as possible. The main task for me every day is to visit my only friend Danny. Me and Danny had been best friends for nearly our entire life. When I was 5 years old, my parents gave me the choice of private lessons with a special teacher at home, or, I could go to public school like the normal children. Well when I heard that public school meant I could meet people my age I immediately decided to pick it. My parents picked the nearest school which was just outside of Crona Capital, New Haven Elementary. On my first day, I tried talking to nearly everyone but everybody gave me weird stares and walked away. I didn't fit in at all. When we went outside every girl except for me sat at the benches talking and playing with dolls. I spent my time playing with the boys on slides and swings. Finally, someone talked to me after we came back indoors. I felt a tap on my shoulder, and I turned to see a shivering boy almost as tall as me with crazy, mismatched clothes and long black hair. In a very shy, low voice he said "You're the coolest girl I've ever seen.". I responded with " Thanks, I sure don't feel cool.". For the rest of the day we sat together and talked. The day's final bell went off and we walked out together holding hands. It was at this moment I realized, we didn't even know each others names. "What is your name?" I asked. His response was "Dan Vestra, but you can call me Danny.". "That's a cool name! My name is Katherine Kronos but you can call me...uh...". I didn't have a nickname. I always wanted one but didn't know what it should be. In a split second I decided it should be the name of my favorite animal. "Call me Kat!". " Okay Kat, I'll see ya tomorrow!". Danny let go and ran to his mother. I looked down at my hand and a weird feeling rose up inside my stomach. My mother walked up and said "What's wrong sweetie?". Before I could think, a sentence slipped out of my mouth. " I-I think...I just made a friend." We went to school together ever since then until last year. All of a sudden he had stopped showing up to class. After a week, the towns got a message over our speakers saying that Brian and Sarah Vestra had been murdered and that their son, Dan Vestra, was missing. A couple days ago he was finally found by the guards. He left the walls and survived for that entire year. He said that he had went crazy when he found the slaughtered bodies of what used to be his parents and that instinct took over his body, forcing him to run as far away as possible. After reclaiming his sanity he began a journey back to Crona. I've been visiting him every day to keep him company and check up on him. He now lives with his uncle in Factory. Factory is one of the border cities of the Country of Crona. It used to be a district filled with mechanical wonders used to make items to ship to the cities. However the technology eventually became outdated causing them to be shut down. Not to long after it's closing, people who couldn't afford to live in the official cities began to claim land and move in. Factory went from the most important district to the slums in a matter of months. Even though it's sad to see people forced to live here, the landscape is actually beautiful. The mountains formed from the debris and dust and the gigantic mossy metal contraptions make it look like a painting of ancient ruins. After a long walk I finally arrive at the Vestra Shack. Danny works at his uncle's scrap shop since he's old enough to work and he can't go back to school. "Sup Kitty Kat!". " Uh, stop saying that you idiot!". I give him a good punch to the shoulder. He just giggles away the pain. "You alright Danny?". "Well besides the fact that I can see your face, yeah I guess so.". He mockingly sticks out his tongue at me. "Whatever man, my face is beautiful.". Our conversation is cut short by the portable speaker in my pocket. "Princess Kronos, please hurry home. There is an emergency.". "Uh oh, I guess you better get going.". I give him a hug and start to run as fast as possible to the Capital. What is going on?
