Fluffy snow bits sprinkled down outside the hospital window. Peaceful. Serene, in a cold way.
Exactly the way (Y/n) felt, lying between the chilled white sheets, the steady beep of a monitor next to her. She told the staff it'd been an accident- maybe a burglary gone wrong or something, she couldn't exactly remember. But so long as they didn't know the truth, she figured she'd be fine. She didn't care about the little details.

The staff had recommended some distance from her family, but her nurse was always present. Always watching, fiddling with wires or tubes. Untrusting.

And even though she didn't mind the quiet, because she could watch falling flurries in peace, (Y/n) wasn't happy, either. She'd been counting on a certain blue hedgehog to show up- considering they'd been best friends three months prior. But two days in the hospital passed with no sign of him.

Probably for the best, She figured silently. He doesn't need to see me like this.

Her thoughts jarred as the door crashed open, and in stormed a glowering hedgehog. He wasn't the blue one she'd been hoping for. Instead, she sat shocked as Shadow pushed past the nurse to reach her.

"You're stupid."

(Y/n) flinched. "Gee, thanks. You couldn't have waited till after I was out of the hospital?"

"You know what I mean," Shadow growled. "Anyone who tries throwing their life away is."

"Or just desperate," She responded. "Hurt. Alone. Depressed."

"You weren't alone," His red haze hardened,"You had friends and family."

She scoffed,"Do you really think they would've cared after a week or two passed? I was an awful person- I'm sure they'd have thanked me. And anyways, you're not supposed to know about that."

"You were reported missing three months back." He snapped,"G.U.N. is all over your case right now."

"Disgusting."

He looked like he could punch her.
Like really punch her.
And maybe she should've cared more or at least acted like she did, but after he ruined a perfectly peaceful moment, she wasn't in the mood to act politely.

"Just go back to pretending like I don't exist," She snapped. "Quit wasting your time here."

"I'm not wasting time— your life matters,"He growled.

"Why are you still stuck on that?? Dude, I failed—" she laughed bitterly, eyes watering."I couldn't do it. I can't even kill myself right. How stupid is that?"

The conversation paused, her statement caught in the air like dead weight.

"That's probably the smartest thing you've done these past three months."

(Y/n) went to staring at her hands.

"You deserve a second chance. G.U.N. is offering a recovery session with future training modules."

A frown tugged at her lips, but she kept her gaze downward. Why would G.U.N. be interested in her?

Shadow continued,"You have a week to make your decision. If you really want to make something of your life, I suggest you think hard."

She could hear him start to walk away. Her hands trembled.

"Shadow?" She forced. She finally yanked her head up and stared at his back. "Why are you the one telling me this?"

He didn't say anything at first.
Then,"Once...I was just like you."

He disappeared out the door, and (Y/n) was left to her snowflakes once more.
