Twins Jamie and Ned do everything together , from watching there favorite show, Star Trek, to listening to Granddad's old stories of his life at sea, to searching for treasure on the beach after a storm. But Ned is very sick, and he may soon leave Jamie behind.
One day the boys found a strange and terrifying creature washed up on the shore: smooth flesh on one end, skinny arms and legs ending in long webbed fingers and toes.
Together the boys named the creature Leonard and decide to hide but him in a tub in their garage. But... what is Leonard, and why is he here? Jamie hopes he might bring some miracle that that will stop his brother from going where he can no longer follow. But Ned, who grows closer to Leonard every day, doesn't seem to be getting any better....
