Sophie and Markl went to the market and like Sophie promised, they didn't get any fish. But they did get potatoes even though Markl hated them. They were in and out of the market in an hour.
"I think I'll go back to the hat shop. I want to practice my magic, I can take the food back." He offered.
Sophie nodded once, "Sure, but stay safe." She handed him the basket and Markl took off. She watched him disappear into the distance then started walking to the bakery where her sister is.
She decided to go through the allies instead of walking in the streets. She took a right into the alley. For once, there were no guards in the allies. There usually were, it was strange they weren't here. But really she didn't mind. It had been a while since she had actually walked around the city.
She accidentally took a wrong turn into an alley she hadn't been in before. She looked around. "This can't be the right way..." She shrugged and kept walking. She'd find her way to the bakery some how.
"Sophie, look out!" Howl yelled from behind her. Before she knew what was happening, she was in the air. Howl was casually walking but Sophie was too confused. "H-Howl?" She said stretching her legs out. She started walking with him.
"Sorry about that." He apologized, "There was something after you. I didn't get a good look at it but I think it was one of Suliman's henchmen."
Suliman's henchmen? How did they find her? She looked down but they were too far away from the alley.
"Where were you going?" He asked changing the subject. Sophie looked at him, "The bakery. To see my sister." She looked in front of her. She could see the bakery just ahead. It was just a few more steps. She suddenly for very nervous. She hadn't seen her sister in two years. What would she say?
Once they were there, Howl helped Sophie onto the balcony. "Wait." She held one of his hands preventing him from flying away, "Will you come with me? I'm a little nervous." Howl chuckled, "Sure." He floated down onto the balcony next to her.
A woman who worked at the bakery walked by. "Oh, um, excuse me, miss." The girl stopped and looked at her. "Could you tell Lettie Sophie is here...she'll know what you're talking about." She told her. The woman gasped and hurried to get Lettie. Sophie watched her confused, "hm..."
~
The girl made her way through a crowd of people to get to Lettie behind the counter. "Lettie!" She called. Lettie walked over to her. She told Lettie that her sister was upstairs waiting for her. Lettie didn't even respond. She pushed her way past everyone and ran upstairs.
~
Lettie stopped on her tracks when she saw a strange woman with grey hair standing next to a tall man with black hair. They were both looking out the window, talking with each other.
"S-Sophie?" Lettie asked hopefully.
Sophie turned around quickly, "Lettie!" She smiled wide. Lettie ran over to her, tackling her older sister in a hug.
"I can't believe you're here! Where have you been? Who is he? I'm so glad you're here!" Sophie laughed and hugged her sister. "Come on!" Lettie said pulling away, "you can tell me everything, lets go down to the storage room."
