**August**

Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.

I groaned as I rolled over. My phone had been notifying me of text messages for the past hour. I squinted up at my alarm clock. It was 5 am. I groaned louder this time as I realized I had to get up out of the comfort of my bed. Today was the first day of my senior year at Edgewater High School. It was also my first day at this particular high school itself. Remembering the buzzing sound coming from my bedside table, I unplugged my phone from the charger and looked to see who would be texting me at this ungodly hour. A smile made its way across my lips as I read the two names that flashed across my screen.

Kylie: Rise and shine! Time to get your lazy ass out of bed!

Autumn: Gooooood morning!

Kylie: Wake up!

Autumn: Sam wake up!

Autumn: Damn you still sleep like the dead.

Kylie: I'm going to text your mom and make her dump ice water on your head.

Those were my best friends for you. I had to give them credit though. Even though I lived all the way in Narnia (New Hampshire) and they still lived in the sunny state of Florida, they were still there to encourage me to get ready on my first day of school. I quickly replied.

Holy shit guys. I'm awake. Whose bright idea was it to make teenagers go to school at seven in the morning aways?

After hitting reply I threw the covers off and sat up. New Hampshire was nothing like Florida that's for sure. We had managed to find a three bedroom, three bathroom house to call home. It was a beautiful, white old country home with black shutters and a wrap around porch. We lived on a large hill with only two other neighbors. A lady who owned a horse ranch and an older man who had moved away from the city to become closer to nature after his wife had passed away. The house had a long winding driveway lined with beautiful pine trees and luscious green hedges with red berries. Because we were only one of three inhabitants on the hill, we had acres of land. If you took a left out of our front porch you would eventually come across a small pond surrounded by cattails. If you took a right, you came across my favorite place to waste time. An old abandoned building. Well what was left of it anyways. The roof had caved in many years ago, which left a clear view of the sky. Two of the walls were crumbling and stood about three feet high while the remaining two stood proud and strong. Bricks littered the ground in between the growing weeds. It was such a peaceful place. And right now I wish I was awake at this ridiculous hour to go curl up under the stars instead of getting ready to go to a new school. Again.

I swung my legs over the side of the bed and felt my toes run across something furry and smooth. I leaned down and picked up my cat, Daisy, and quickly gave her some loving before releasing her to return to her slumber. I grumbled, "lucky bitch" and grabbed my towel as I made my way to my shower. Thank God I had my own bathroom because my brother, Zack, was a sophomore in high school and he was in the same exact situation as I was at the moment. I noticed him stumbling down the hallway, wiping his eyes from sleep.

"Good morning" I said to him.

He shot me the middle finger and slammed his bathroom door. And I thought I hated getting up before noon.

I stepped into my bathroom and locked the door. Turning around I turned the shower faucet almost all the way to the left. I took off my over sized t-shirt and underwear and slipped into the scalding water. As I let the water run onto my head and over my face, I began to think of just exactly I was going to be doing today. My heart began to pick up its pace.
