flashback 6 / autumn of 2011
Taehyung sighed, his puff of breath visible in the cold autumn weather. It was six in the morning, and once again, Taehyung wasn't at home cuddling with Jungkook like he should've.
It wasn't like he didn't want to, he actually would've loved to be at home, where it was actually warm. But currently, he had other important things to do that he couldn't tell Jungkook about, which is why he'd been out of the house repetitively.
He had spent the last month or so trying to find the perfect pair of promise rings. It seemed cheesy, but Taehyung knew Jungkook enjoyed and loved cheesy things just like promise rings.
While walking downtown with Jungkook, he had pointed to a ring on display outside. The ring he had pointed to was this gorgeous, but simple gold band with a small sparkling diamond that sat perfectly in the middle. The matching ring was a gold band with a diamond accent.
The day after, Taehyung went back while Jungkook had afternoon classes. When he asked the clerk about the rings on display, she simply said back to him that they were bought just the night before.
"Is there another pair of them that I can buy? I really want to buy that pair for my boyfriend and I." Taehyung asked.
"Unfortunately, there aren't any other pairs here, but I can locate you to a different jewelry store where they may have one."
The clerk wrote down a couple of jewelry stores on a small piece of scratch paper and handed it to Taehyung. "I really hope you can find a pair in one of these stores. Good luck to you and your boyfriend."
"Thank you so, so much. I appreciate it." Taehyung sad back with a smile and a slight head bow, then left the store while looking at the list of store names.
He smiled, positive that one of these stores held that perfect pair. Taehyung couldn't wait to see the happiness spread across Jungkook's face once he gave him the ring.

present / summer of 2016
It'd been about two weeks since the incident. Taehyung was greatly relieved that Jungkook was sound asleep that night. He really must've been very tired.
It was a plus for Taehyung. He slipped away quietly and did his best to take care of his situation, then left the sleeping Jungkook with a peck on his lips before admiring his gorgeous features.
And now, the two had seen each other every single night after Jungkook closed the café since then. Their relationship had definitely become stronger, but there was still no label, and Taehyung still couldn't muster up the courage to say anything.
"Nothing? Tae, it's been two weeks. You had fourteen days, that's 336 hours where you could've told him." Hoseok said. Yoongi, Hoseok, and Taehyung were gathered up in his office, drinking some brandy.
"Like I don't know? I've been trying, I really have. I'm just— just, scared. Hobi hyung, what happens if we start again, and it ends up like last time. What would I do? I can't hurt him a second time." Taehyung ranted in frustration.
