Dr Daniel Kang found himself intrigued, and somewhat unnerved as he met the impassive gaze of his guest. There was not a trace of emotion he could detect, no trepidation, anxiety, nothing within those dark brown irises. And for a man who prided himself on his ability to read the expressions of others, it was a very disconcerting thing indeed. The Headmaster of Bangtan International High shifted uncomfortably in his seat before speaking.
"I assume you understand why I have called for this meeting?"
The girl blinked at him, smiling. "I believe it is common procedure for the headmaster of a school to arrange an interview with a transfer student."
Kang nodded, "Indeed it is for normal schools. However, it is ... unusual for a transfer student to be accepted into Bangtan High. We are a school that caters to the best young men and women in the country. For a transfer student to be accepted is exceptionally rare." The girl's face remained blank, and Kang wet his lips before continuing.
"So imagine my surprise, that a few days ago, I received an email from the Chairman of the Trustees, for an order to transfer a young woman named Choi Juhee into my school. Were it anyone other than Kim Jeong Gyu, I likely would have refused.
"Well sir," the girl responded, "I'm glad that you accepted."
"An explanation Ms Choi," the Headmaster said brusquely, "I would like to know why the Chairman has all but demanded to have you inducted into Bangtan High."
"There are some details I cannot divulge, but I will give you a basic explanation." A statement of fact, one which Daniel reluctantly accepts. "The Kim family has always been close with mine. My parents got into a ... spot of bother back in Hong Kong and wanted to send me here to complete my final year of schooling. Jeong Gyu kindly agreed."
Kang let the girl's explanation hang, hoping for more, but he was soon disappointed. The girl just stared at him, and the Headmaster soon realised that was as much of an explanation as he would get,
"I see," Dr Kang paused before moving onto the last phase of the ... interview. "I have seen your results from your previous school, and I must say I am impressed. Perfect marks in just about every subject. Do you roughly know what subjects are available to you?" A moment of silence, but then the girl nodded, and he released the breath he had inadvertently been holding.
Dr Kang reached into the file cabinet beside him and pulled out two sheets of paper. "Here is your student schedule and a list of available electives. Choose them as you see fit." The girl fills out the two forms rapidly and hands them back without delay.
"Excellent." Kang clasped his hands behind his head and leaned back in his swivel chair. "Now, are there any further questions?"
A charming smile and a shake of the head. "It has been an honour to meet with you, Dr Kang," the girl was unfalteringly polite, her gaze still impassive.
"Welcome to Bangtan International High, Ms Choi."
