Bit of a long story but basically Jupes helped me get back into this anon and offered the AU to me because he needed more people to role-play with in this group. We were able to come up with this background for Stephen together.

AU OVERVIEW:
From what I remember this AU explored the dark areas of Marvel characters. The plot also expanded to Wanda corrupting major Avengers and the members doing whatever evil bidding she wanted. Stephen being an exception because he was already an outsider to the Avengers, so he wasn't exactly corrupted by Wanda.
ACCOUNT SET UP:

The ever legendary Doctor Stephen Strange, a now timid, diffident man, the mystic downside to the whole Avengers, a foolish hero, selling his soul to an entity much worse than the devil, had come back one day to his former job, and kept his wing of the hospital. How he can still perform his blessed surgeries without a complete failure, with his scalpel shaking in hand, one can only joke about magic. One can only joke about how true that really is.
Desperate, and driven to madness trying to find the perfect cure for his hands, the sorcerer tempts himself into the dark arts- where his very own soul is given to Dormammu, in exchange for healed hands.

CHARACTER SUMMARY:
As I said in the bio, in this dark AU, Stephen was corrupted by Dormammu. Stephen never became the selfless hero that you see in the MCU. He desperately wanted that cure for his hands, so he ignorantly reached out to dark forces instead of becoming the Ancient One's true disciple. The cost for working hands was to become Dormammu's slave for all of eternity, but Stephen only think's he'll have to serve Dormammu until Stephen dies, obviously that's not true.
When I role-played, I would have Stephen act scared and easily frightened because he is, but really there is no one he needs to fear but Dormammu himself.
He's still a very powerful sorcerer that trained hard under Dormammu's watchful eye, so he IS as powerful as Wanda, but because he does sympathize with the younger woman, he wouldn't actually hurt her. Eventually the Avengers do recruit him and he painfully has to watch by or even forced to help the group torture the city and other parts of the world.
I always wanted to do this huge arc where Stephen tries to become an infiltrator and recruit some Avengers who would want to take Wanda down and hopefully change her back to a normal person.

FUN FACTS:
After Jupes helped me plot for the AU, I changed the username to RATEDMYSTIC because that would have been the temporary username until I was done with the AU. But yeah. RATEDMYSTIC isn't my original username. I actually went through three and there are only a FEW people who even remember what the OG usernames used to be for this account.
