"Mama! Papa! Look! I learned how to play Für Elise by Bach on the piano," Charlotte grinned as she sat at the old piano in their living room. It happened to have been a gift from the Charlotte's late grandfather who was in love with music.

The girl's parents had been in the kitchen doing taxes when she shouted in excitement. Even though her parents didn't acknowledge her, she played the first key of the piano before she got yelled at.

"Charlotte, quiet it down with that racket!" Her mother yelled, "We're busy!"

"Sorry, mama!" Charlotte yelled back as she let out a small sigh. The girl pushed up her glasses and got up from the piano to go in her room.

"Where have you been?" Charlotte's father asked when she walked through the door.

"Sorry, dad," Charlotte said as she pulled in her guitar case in, "A group of kids at school wanted me to join in a band since I can play guitar-"

"Since when can you play guitar?" He asked, not believing her.

"Last year..."

"Where did you even get one? You know your mother and I would never let you buy that awful thing."

"I...I saved my money up from holidays." Charlotte clutched the case close to her as she frowned. "I'm sorry for not texting you guys. I thought I did about the band thing."

Her father groaned, "Doesn't matter. Just don't go hanging out with those low-lives again."

"But dad-"

"But nothing!"

Charlotte sighed in defeat and went back into her room to play her guitar.

"Why can't you guys just believe in me?" Charlotte asked her parents as she showed them the acceptance letter to FSU. "It's a great school and they have an excellent music program."

"We know it's a good school, but music... really?" Her mother questioned, "That's such an unsafe major for someone who...has never performed much in front of others."

"Your mother has a point," Her father uttered, "You could be terrible for all we know. Why can't you be a doctor, or even an accountant like me?"

Charlotte frowned and said, "I want to study music therapy. I want to help others with my melodies."

Her parents began to laugh.

"You really think music can do a doctor's job?" Her father sneered, "We aren't discussing this anymore. You'll go to this school, but you'll studying something worthwhile. Not music..."

Charlotte felt her heart break at their words. She wanted someone to just... believe in her.

Charlotte teared up as her mother yelled at her intensely.

"Your dad and I sent you to college for one year and you completely disobeyed us!" She yelled, "We told you to not take any music classes!"
