I NEARLY FELL OFF BALANCE. I took the laptop away from her and scrolled some more. It seemed like Ethan only updated this today, but what made him think about playing this trick on me?
“HOW? WHAT? I-I DON’T…” I was at lost for words. My heart pounded harder and my stomach wanted to throw everything up. I knew for all my life, I’ve dreamed about seeing my name in that type of status with him… but right now, this was just absurd. I mean what was going on with his mind?
He then changed his profile picture into a stolen shot of both of us when he visited the park with me. I gotta say, we really did look like a couple, but I knew for a fact that wasn’t real. None of it was real.
“That’s fake.” I told my sister, closed her laptop and ran upstairs. I got a few texts from Mich and Joan as well, congratulating me for the wish come true, but I was trying to tell them that it never happened.
“Is this a confession or something? Maybe he’s implying that you two should get together! That this was his form of saying ‘will you be my girlfriend?’ OMY GOSH SOL!!!!” I moved my phone away from my ear, as it was already being destroyed by the decibels of Michelle’s screech. Apparently I got another call on the other line. I place Mich on hold and found Joan’s calling screen, I swiped it and connected both of them to tell them my reason.
“Look, guys, I don’t want this okay? Sure, I’ve been dreaming about it for my whole entire life, but…”
“But?”
“I don’t feel it’s quite right. I mean why would Ethan do that? To me?” I asked both of them while they were listening intently on each line.
“Well, you two ate lunch together that other day, and he certainly looked differently at you…” Mich piped. “Not to mention, he’s been going to the library ever since…he sometimes asks me if you’re around!” Joan added.
Really? But I shook my head. “No. Okay? No.” I said with full conviction.
“The old you would absolutely be absurd to hear you say that right now.” They commented. “I’ll just go ask him myself, alright? Maybe someone decided to hack his account and pull a prank on me…” I suggested while I hear both of them agree. “Go ask now.” Joan said.
“No. Tomorrow. Face to face. I’m tired today.” I heard both of them sigh and threaten me to do it. Then I ended the calls.
That certainly got me thinking about Ethan. I hadn’t talked to him in a while.
The next day, I found Ethan by his locker after we had our math class. He looked his usual but I couldn’t deny that I was feeling nervous around him as millions of questions came popping in my head.
“H-Hey Ethan…” I muttered under my breath when he turned around and went the other way, leaving me alone in the locker area. Ugh. This might take a while.
I went over to my locker and placed my stuff when I noticed Greyson lazily dropping his books on the floor. He seems to be busy doing something to his locker.
“What’s up?” I asked from behind him causing him to forcefully close it and placed a sour look on his face. “Nothing…You seem to be pumped up. Is there anything new with Ethan today?” He asked me with a little annoyance present in his voice. I can tell he was forcing himself with these questions. “Not you too… Greyson, that never happened okay? It seems like Ethan’s pulled a prank on me.” I defended, but he just nodded, “Oh don’t worry. I believe you…” Then he walked away, just like that. What’s up with Greyson today?
