He was gone.
Sasuke was gone.
There was nothing Kaiwa could do about it, and it shredded her heart to pieces. However, like always, she was more worried about how Naruto felt, compared to her own feelings.
Kaiwa's emotions had gradually watered down over the years, but by now they were almost nonexistent. It was something that the Uchiha couldn't explain, but she felt... empty.
She'd forgotten how to dream.
Although Kaiwa had lost her sun years ago, she still wished for the sunny days of her teenage years. She constantly found herself reminiscing on the happy memories she had, while simultaneously trying desperately to block out the bad ones.
But time can't heal all wounds.
"Neechan? You haven't eaten your ramen yet," Naruto spoke through a mouth full of noodles.
"I'm alright," Kaiwa answered instinctively, but Naruto only narrowed his blue eyes.
"Now that's a lie if I've ever heard one," he responded, shocking Kaiwa. For that moment, he seemed like the older sibling.
"I-"
"No, eat your ramen. If you want other food instead, I'll get it for you. But you have to eat something."
Seriousness swam in Naruto's ocean eyes. But there was also concern. He just lost Sasuke, so he wasn't letting anything happen to his sister.
"You worry too much, Naruto," Kaiwa gave him a lopsided smile.
"Well, you worry so much about me, don't you think I worry about you too?" Naruto grinned, slurping another noodle.
"I guess it's only fair," Kaiwa sighed, dipping her chopsticks into the ramen bowl.
They ate in comfortable silence, both enjoying each other's company. But Naruto felt extremely guilty.
He wanted to tell Kaiwa, but he didn't know how.
"What else do you have planned for today?" Naruto wondered. He'd already followed Kaiwa to the bookstore, and to lunch at the ramen shop. It seemed like he planned on tagging along with her for the whole day.
"Well, I have a quick mission to collect some herbs just outside of the village, though I'm sure the Hokage would let you come with me. It's only a D-Rank after all."
"Alright!" Naruto cheered. Kaiwa took some money from her wallet, passing it to her brother.
"Eat as much as you want. I'm going to go talk to the Hokage, and I'll be back in a few minutes, okay? I want to make sure that it's alright for you to come on my mission with me."
