I leaned against a wooden post that was holding up one of the many shops that lined Orabel. I had my head down, disallowing people to see from my nose up because of my pirate hat, although I could still see everyone else.
“Captain,” Kai’s hushed voice drifted to my ears from where he was sitting on a bench a few feet away where he had his nose stuffed in an open newspaper he was pretending to read, “how are we supposed to blend in with you attracting so much attention?”
Kai was right, everybody’s attention was locked on me. Yeah, I stood out like a sore thumb in my pirate outfit while everyone else was wearing rather formal clothes in the rich market streets of Orabel. I was wearing a long-sleeved, thinly-woven white blouse, a leather corset on the outside of my shirt (unlike all the other girls who wore it inside their dresses), and puffy black pants tucked into brown lace-up boots. I had a long-chained necklace with a large golden locket about the size of the palm of my hand and small gold hoops in my ears. My hair was down like always and had the usual red bandanna tied around the top of my head that was then covered by a black, three-sided pointy pirate hat (and no, it doesn’t have a feather in it). I had my usual red sash draped around my hips and a large belt that held up my twin daggers in an X on my back, and my two scimitars that rested on my sides (my four flintlocks were on a belt that went over one of my shoulders). Some of the Orabel citizens were used to seeing pirates out and about, but even they were surprised to see a female pirate hanging around the streets of Orabel.
But it didn’t matter, I’m only here for one reason and one reason only.
Right then, I saw a blonde haired guy walk out of the blacksmith’s shop. Right on time, I thought to myself. I followed the boy at a far enough distance away that he wouldn’t suspect anything, yet was as close as I could allow without being caught. Kai followed at a large distance as I followed the boy until we got to a less crowded area; that was when I pounced.
“Excuse me, sir,” I said, holding out the coin purse I had stolen from him only seconds ago, “I think you dropped this.”
Dylan Thatch turned around, his golden locks swishing in the wind and his green eyes landing on me. For a second, I was surprised, caught off guard by how much his eyes looked like his father’s. From a distance, it was hard to believe that this skinny, blonde-haired, city boy was son of the large-muscled, black-haired, notorious pirate. But those eyes were unmistakable.
“Um,” Dylan said as we both noticed how much we were staring.
I blushed, “Uh, um, would you like to go out for lunch?”
Dylan’s cheeks flushed, “Uh, yeah, um. W-when would you l-like to go?”
Wow. Men were so easy. “How about tomorrow?”
“Alright,” said Dylan, still slightly flushed, “I’ll meet you back here at 12 o’clock.”
“Alright,” I agreed. I winked at him and waved before heading over into a nearby clothes store.
“Nice goin’, Captain,” said Kai as I entered the clothes store he had been waiting in. “For a second, you even had me guessin’ if you really were blushin’ for real.”
I grinned at Kai, “We both know that it is impossible for me to feel any feelings for a man. Lust and love are foreign to me.”
I began to browse the garments and dresses that the store had. If all was going to go according to plan, I needed to look good for my date tomorrow and my normal pirate clothes weren’t going to work. I ran my hand along a red dress made of a fine silk.
“He had his eyes,” I mumbled in a low voice but Kai still heard me.
Kai’s face dropped a little, contorting into a sad frown. “I miss him too.”
I grabbed the dress and headed into a nearby dressing room. Trying it on, I found that it clung to my curves in a great way that really complimented me and the heart shaped front was modest but also drew attention to my chest. The blood red color went well with my blonde hair and blue eyes and the hem of the dress fell to just below my knees.
When was the last time I wore a dress?
I exited the dressing room in my normal attire and brought the dress to the counter, pulling out my coin purse. Kai placed a pair of white ankle boots on the counter as well as a white garter belt with matching white stockings. “Is that for me?” I ask.
“Nope, I thought they would look good on me,” he said, looking down at me with a serious face.
An unwanted image popped into my head with Kai wearing the garter belt, stockings, and boots. Kai laughed at my expression, which was probably a horrified one, and said “Yes, they are for you. But when you ask a rhetorical question I will give you a rhetorical answer.”
I paid the woman for all four objects and Kai and I exited the store together, Kai carrying my bag of clothes. We began heading to the docks and it was a sight to sore eyes to see my Armina standing tall and proud above all the other ships at the docks. Oh, how much I missed her. I was practically running to get aboard my black ship with gold accents, to step on the dark oak wood deck, to grab hold of her black and gold wheel.
Right when my boot hit the dark brown wood of my ship, all of my crew was staring at me. They knew their place and they knew it well. The last one of my crew members that had disrespected me ended up tied to the top of the mast, in the middle of a hurricane, naked. Thinking of the event brought a grin to my face while all of my crew shuddered, thinking of the same event as I. “So,” I said, taking a few steps onto Armina so that I was in the middle of the deck, “I heard that you men were betting on my return?”
There were a few murmurs, curses, and glares thrown at Kai. “Who are the ones who thought I would come back?” I asked. There were a few ‘aye’s and ‘me, Captain’s and so I continued. “Those of you who didn’t doubt your Captain can meet me in my dining room tonight. And those who did doubt their Captain better not come, I have eyes and ears everywhere, and you don’t want to be punished do you?”
I could see a few men gulp and others had horrified expressions. I grinned and headed back to my cabin, Kai hot on my heels. I opened the door to my cabin, which was at the back of the boat, underneath the wheel. The first room I had was a dining room, and then there were two doors, one on the left wall and one on the right wall. The one to the left lead to my room, which I shared with Kai (no we didn’t sleep in the same bed and we never will), which had a connecting bathroom. The door to the right lead to my office, which held my desk and a couch and a few other things.
