Darcy's POV:

I peaked around the door, checking on Madison. She lay there in the middle of the bed wrapped in my dressing gown and quilt. I smiled at her, she looked adorable. I hadn't seen her this peaceful in a long while. I crept closer. Her face was red and tear-stained. Strands of her hair stuck to her cheeks. I sighed and looked down at the bed, her arm was red with blood-rash. There were cuts all up her arm. My heart sank. A tear trickled down my face. I couldn't bare to see her like this. She was so stressed out, so broken. I kissed her forehead and tip-toed back out the room. I was just settling into the sofa when I was startled by a loud banging on the door.

"WHERE IS SHE. WHERE THE FUCK IS SHE. OPEN UP DARCY, I WANT MY DAUGHTER." Our dad had arrived, and by the sounds of it he was drunken and doped up, as usual. Madison ran out of my room fear written all over her face. I wasn't prepared to hand her over to him. She's been through enough.

"I'M CALLING THE POLICE, YOU'D BETTER LEAVE OR ELSE." The door seemed to bend inwards as he tried to force his way in on the other side. Madison started to panic, he scared her so much. He put her through so much. I didn't want her to suffer the way I did when I was little. I moved out when I was 16 and when I was 18 I filed for a restraining order against him. Right now he was violating the terms of the contract. I went to comfort her. Her body was cold, she was shaking like crazy. She was breaking down. She was flooding buckets. Everything was happening so quickly. I walked her back to my room, told her to hide in the bathroom and lock the door then I locked the bedroom door. My puppy Dexter had woken up, he was going crazy he barked viciously at the door. I knew it wouldn't keep dad out for long. I dialled 999 and the operator seemed to drag, I was in such a hast. Not a moment of time was to be lost right now.

"Emergency services how can I help you?"

"POLICE PLEASE." I snapped. My voice wobbled slightly in response to the operator.

"Okay maam, please hold." I fiddled with my fingers "C'mon, c'mon, I have no time to hold." I banged my fist on the kitchen counter. I was getting overly impatient.

"Hello, how can I help you?" The voice on the other line responded sounding awfully like the operator before.

"My father, he's drunk and drugged up. He's trying to force his way into my apartment. He wants my sister but he's violent and ill. He abuses her. I can't let her go back with him. I need him taken away. Please."

"Okay maam, is he armed?"

"I have no idea. He might have a pen-knife on him I don't know." Right then I was interrupted. The door burst open, he had split in right down the middle.

"Maam, maam are you okay? Maam can yo hear me? Maam, maam." I heard the lady on the other line. She sounded paniced. I quickly shouted the address down the phone and dropped the phone.

"ShrewsburyApartmentsBlockBFloor99RoomK14sPleaseHelpUs" The woman on the line said something but it was faint.

"Hello baby. I've come for my daughter." He came edged towards me. I moved back quickly. He really disgusted me. He smelt, he was filthy and unwashed. His hair was musty and greasy. His eyes bright red. His clothes rough and battered. I wouldn't dare comparre him to a homeless person because surely homeless people carried themselves A LOT better than he did.

"Get out of my house. You disgust me." I spat in his direction, only just missing him.

"Don't be like that, remember the way it used to be? Just me and you?" I could never forget. The way I looked after him. The way he'd come in late drunk and beat me and mom. The way he'd mollest me. A shiver of repulsion filled my body. I couldn't call him dad, I had to address him by his first name, Frank, he didn't deserve the title dad.
