Chapter three

Annabeth sat silently in front of the tied up man, waiting patiently for him to awaken and answer her many questions. She jumped a tad bit when she heard him grunt in surprise, his gag not allowing him to speak. Ever so carefully, Annabeth removed the gag but kept him tied up in case he tried to attack her and escape. Annabeth, having only heard stories about those who lived in the outside world, was looking at the man in awe. "Who are you! Where am I?!" The man demanded. Annabeth just looked at him and responded, "My name is Annabeth, I will ask you the questions and only when I give you permission may you ask a question is this understood?" Annabeth replied with a silky smooth voice. The man looked at her confused but nodded in reply. "What is your name?" Annabeth asked. "Mario." The man apparently named Mario replied calmly. Annabeth nodded and was about to ask another question when she heard the loud emergency sirens blare in her cat ears. Annabeth looked around the room with ears down in panic for the sirens haven't gone off in years. "ANNABETH!!!!" She heard her mother call. "ANNABETH GET OUT OF THERE AND RUN!!!" Annabeth looked at her mom Solar Flare. She shook her head and screeched, "I MUST GRAB THE PRISONER FOR HE MAY BE A OUTSIDER BUT HE DESERVES A CHANCE!" Annabeth looked at her mother who finally nodded before running off in fear and panic. Annabeth grabbed Mario and ran out of the large mansion. When she was outside she lowered her ears far more than before, for she had never left the safety of the mansion and knew only that the outside world was a dangerous place. "Hey, you ok?" Annabeth jumped after hearing Mario's question, for she thought that the outsiders never cared. "We might not be in the mansion but the same rules apply. But I haven't been in the outside world ever in my short life so I know nothing but it is a dangerous place filled with terrible people." Annabeth replied quietly. "Actually, it really isn't." Was Mario's response.
