Today was the first day of senior year. Just one more year and then I would be done with high school and this town. East Hills High school was one of the most boring places on earth. I really just wanted to get out of this town. Trying to open my eyes, I see the time and it's 7:40! "Shit, I'm going to be late." I try to get ready as quickly as possible, putting on a grey t-shirt and some black jeans. I looked at myself in the mirror, thinking that my outfit was kinda of weird for me. I don't usually go for dark colors, always went for the classic kakis and polo shirt.

I quickly run down the stairs and just see my mom with her cup of coffee. "Why are you so late today? Is everything ok? Are you not feeling well?" My mom was a psychologist and so was my dad so they were all up for this house being a safe place to say whatever you want. They never got mad which weirdly pissed me off sometimes. They just insisted to talk things out, when all I wanted to do was scream at them and them scream at me; like a normal relationship between parents and teenager.

"Mom, I'm ok. I just overslept a little. There's nothing wrong with that."

"Well, five more minutes and I wouldn't have been able to drop you off at school."

My mom insisted that she'd drive me to school. She says it's an opportunity for her to talk to me and catch up, to see well just really my life at school, which she new pretty much everything.

After breakfast we get in the car and I just silently sit there waiting for my mom to start talking.

"So sweetie, tell me, what are you plans for senior year? Are you excited?"

"Mom, my plans are the same as last year, just keep doing what I always do, get good grades and play soccer."

"Oh come on, you have to have other plans than just that?! I mean you're the captain of the soccer team! Why not plan a little getaway with the team?"

"Mom, please stop. I'll think about ok."

The school is literally fifteen minutes away from my house, I could easily walk. Why did my mom force me to ride with her?

The car ride was awful, but it has always been, it's not gonna change just because it's senior year. Every day I couldn't help but notice that as the soccer captain, during rallies and games I would be like a super star and all the students here in school wanted to do something with me, but on just average days like these, no one even looked at me.

At school I would hang around with the team, I really didn't go that far out on the friend spectrum, and I also had my best friend Alex. Alex was the first openly gay guy in the school. He came out sophomore year and because of that he instantaneously became East Hill's gay best friend, which he absolutely hated. He hated being known as Alex the gay guy. Since sophomore year a whole bunch of people come out, but they always cling to Alex for advice and he kinda hates that.

It was time for first period and that was History. I really love history, I've taken a whole bunch of advanced classes for history but this senior year I decided to take it easy and just take to a regular history class with Alex. When I start going walking up the stairs for the main building, I catch a glimpse of this girl. A girl I had never seen before, or have I seen her before? I don't know. She was wearing some black jeans and a bright red shirt. Who was she? And why do I want to know the answer so badly? I see her getting in her class. Calculus, she has calc first period, so she's a senior as well?

Then I just feel a huge weight on my shoulders. Alex is on my back.

"Dude, get off me! You scared the crap out of me!?"

With a smirk on his face Alex just laughed. Didn't he know that he interrupted my subtle starring at the red shirt girl I had just seen?

"Ready to go to the lamest class ever?" said Alex

"Alex, history is not that bad, and you have to learn something since you practically begged me to take this class with you."

"History makes no sense Bro. It's like we are just reading stories that our grandparents could tell us. Plus weird people or might I say nerds like you actually like this class. I'm going to pass the class, I'm not here to actually learn."

All I could reply to that really sad and dumb comment of his , "Yeah, I mean you're right. What else can one do in a school?"

We sit in the back of the class, and as the class gets started and the teacher gives her lesson, all I notice is the girl in the red shirt though the window and I wonder what she's doing. Is she skipping? On the first day? If they caught her she could get in trouble. Out of an impulse I raise my hand. The class has gone silent and they are staring at me.

"Yes Mr. Miller"

I suddenly realize that the teacher is talking to me. "Umm...Mrs.Davis, may I please go to the bathroom?"

"Yes, Nate, Yes you may.Just take the bathroom pass."

Little did she know, little did I know that I was not going to the bathroom. The girl in the red shirt got the best of me I went out looking for her. Today was going to be a weird first day for my senior year.
