I was fine.
The good thing about not being part of a pack is that people have more people to care about than you. So, I guess, not being cared for was something I was very familiar with it.
I look at the boy on the floor, and my eyes tear up. I had no choice; he had to die; I couldn't let him become something like me, because he would not have a choice. He would become one of them and him being too young... He would have lost all of his humanity. I did him something people wouldn't, and maybe I could have taken him with me to Ty's pack, take care of him, try to wake him up. But I scent his breath, I tasted his blood, and I knew there were no coming back. Alpha gave him some pretty strong drugs, the ones he provides to his zombie's army.
I close his eyes, and I curse Alpha. He was the same age as Chloe, maybe a year younger.
The pain in my back wasn't as sharp as I made them believe, they were watching me from behind; I needed them to leave without me.
"Just show up," I say to the wolf hiding behind the tree a few feet away from me.
"Your new friends left, huh? Quite a show you performed" Cedric said as he became visible.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," I say tired of his small talk and whatever conversation he wanted to start. I was not here for this. "What do you want? Did he really sent this" I point at the wolf's bodies between us, "just to get me back?"
"Maybe"
The thing about Cedric is that he is loyal. Loyalty can be a dangerous thing because it can blind people. Cedric was even more dangerous than people might think; he was blind and with power. He was Alpha's beta, and differently, from Trevor, he liked to show who he was, and he didn't care what he needed to do to portray his role.
"Well, I am not coming back," I say not blinking, I wasn't scared of him. Maybe I should, but I wasn't going to be that person. I was not going down.
Cedric laughs, his voice was dry like he could suck the air with words.
"I don't think it matters if you want or not, you have a role to fulfill and you know it."
"I don't, my part on that pack ended as soon as my sister wasn't part of" He knew that, there wasn't anyone I could fool when it came to the reasons I did what I did.
"Alpha doesn't see this way."
Cedric was a tall guy; he was older than me, maybe older than people might assume him to be. He didn't care about the way he looked; he didn't need to; he was wild. His greyish hair was all over his head, and it matched his messy beard. His clothes were dirty and in need of change, but again, he didn't need to care about any of that. He was the beta of the most prominent and most influential roque pack.
There was nothing he needed to care about, but me.
"I don't care, Cedric, go back and tell him," I say, and I get closer to him. "And don't try to change your scent again, or hide it, you know better than to think you could trick the master with his own trickery."
He smiled, and his disgusting teeth flashed in front of me.
"You will come back, or we will make a mess here"
I roll my eyes.
"I have never heard of this pack, if he wanted to make a mess here, he would have already, so I am pretty sure he won't."
"Don't doubt him little one," He says as his filthy hands touch my hair. He led one strand to his nose and took a deep breath. I want to rip his hands off, but I don't. I don't, and I can't give him a reason to prolong his stay here. "Even if he doesn't mess around here, he will find her" I freeze. "He will show her what is like to be wild."
