"Why?" Rosaline questioned. Her intention was never to push Shawn into any kind of conflict, but that's just what her seemingly innocent question had done. "Why won't you let me go?” She pressed again. “Seriously. Come on, Shawn, you're acting like I'm a five year old," she spat, not giving him time to answer.

"Rosaline. I know you're not..." Shawn finally began to reply calmly, only to be cut off again.

"What is wrong with you?!”Rosaline demanded.

"Wrong with me?” Shawn repeated. “What's wrong with you?!" He snapped.

"You're acting as if I'm a child," she repeated, an eerie calm settling over her.

"Chica, with the way that you're acting you kind of - "

She cut him off again before he could even finish what he was saying; giving him no time to explain himself. "Don't you dare,” she hissed. “You're only two years older than me, Shawn, so don't you dare start acting responsible for what happens to me. You have no right to tell me what I can and can not do. You are not my dad!" She spat.

"You're right. I'm not," Shawn agreed, glancing over in her direction. His big brown eyes were locked on her as he spoke his next sentence. "But I am your caregiver, Rosaline, and while your father is away; I am responsible for what happens to you." He didn't like the fact that keeping secrets from her was the way that he lived, but, he had to do what was best for her; and this was it. "No means no,” he told her again. “You are not to leave this house alone. Do you hear me?" He asked.

"Whatever," she scoffed, rolling her eyes. She wasn't in the mood to argue with Shawn, and yet, he had picked a fight with her over something so small; leaving her to wonder why Shawn was acting so bossy all of a sudden. "I'll be in my room,” she informed him coldly. “You best leave me alone," she ordered.

Those were her final words before she turned her back and stomped up the stairs, leaving Shawn alone in the middle of the living room, having been given no time to respond. He had enough trust in Rosaline to know that she wouldn't go against his orders. He knew that breaking out and running off was the last thing that she would do. Shawn, of course, out of little more than habit, was a step ahead of Rosaline, just in case, and had the house on lockdown. He probably hadn’t been authorised to do such a thing, but he wasn’t going to risk Rosaline’s safety for anything.

Two hours after his confrontation with Rosaline, Shawn hadn’t seen her; or even heard music or television playing in her room, so he decided he’d make a peace offering by taking her some lunch. Hot mug of tea and a plate of toast in hand, Shawn headed upstairs. He was unsettled slightly when he realised Rosaline’s bedroom door had been left open; but he breathed deeply and reminded himself that an open door is hardly cause for panic.

Except, as it turned out; there was indeed cause for panic: Rosaline’s room was empty. She couldn’t have escaped through the window, her dad had had security bars installed over it as a precaution when they’d moved into the new house. Shawn set Rosaline’s meal on her bedside table and headed down the hallway, knocking on the bathroom door. “Rosie?!” He barked, “Are you in here?!”

Shawn almost dropped to his knees when he heard Rosaline call through the door that she had run a bath, and would be down in five minutes.
