I walk down to Alicia's dorm, which is on the second floor of Loons. The doors were decorated with memes and glitter name tags. Most of the dorms were open, and girls were running back and forth between rooms to talk to different people. Alicia's door was in the middle of the hallway, and it was one of the only closed doors on the entire floor.
I knock on the door, and Alicia opens the door. She looks a bit less lazy today with her outfit choice: mom jeans and an 80s sweater. She pulls me inside her room and locks the door behind us.
"Baby, it's been too long! Come over here and give mama a kiss," she says.
I giggle and dance towards her. She wraps her arms around my waist and presses her body against mine as I kiss her softly. She lets go of me and runs her fingers through my long, silver hair.
"I like the faded color, by the way. Ever thought of any other color?" she asks.
I shake my head. When I look at my hair in her mirror, I notice that it's gotten long enough to reach the end of my shoulder blades. The roots are almost an inch long, so my dark brown hair is showing. I don't mind it, though.
She comes up behind me and wraps her arms around me. She's tall enough that her body fits nicely against mine, but she's skinnier than I am. I could easily pin her down if I wanted to.
"I heard you're going to the Mackie party on Saturday. I might go, too, if you're going," I lie. I'll go whether Alicia goes or not.
She kisses my ear and rests her chin on my shoulder. "You bet I'm going. I'll never stop being a party girl. Plus, Mackie beer is way cheaper than Loons beer. To get in, it's five dollars there instead of ten."
I quickly turn around and put my hands on Alicia's cheeks. Her face is round and chubby, so it's easy to cradle in my cupped hands. She sticks out her tongue but laughs almost immediately. I laugh back but keep holding her face. She holds my waist to keep us close together, and I start swaying from side to side as if we're slow-dancing.
"What do you want to do with your life?" I ask.
She stares at me for a few seconds before looking away. I let go of her face, and she embraces me in a hug. My face is against her chest while we keep swaying like babies in a cradle.
"I don't know, Jynx. To be honest with you, a Mandarin Major isn't going to do much for me, but I already know a lot about Chinese culture. Hopefully I'll get a job as a translator, but that's all I've got going for me," she says.
Her life sounds even more hopeless than mine, but I don't feel bad for her. I know that I'm going to date her for a few months until I get drunk with Praise again. The minute I cheat on Alicia, I'll break up with her, but I won't ever have romantic feelings for her. The good part about the Saturday party is that I can try to stall Alicia until afterwards. I want a goodbye with Praise.
"Being a translator sounds cool, though," I say, trying to keep the conversation going. It'll be hard to date her if I don't know anything about her.
She lets go of the hug and pulls me to her bed. We sit next to each other, shoulders rubbing, as we talk. Her entire body is cold and uncomfortable, but I just try not to touch her more than I have to.
She keeps her hand on the inside of my thigh. "It's fine, though, because I want to live in a small apartment with friends or a girlfriend. I don't want a big, fancy life," she says.
I cringe. I'd want a big, fancy life, but I don't say anything back.
Alicia turns to look at my face, and she gives me a peck on the mouth. She talks like coffee today. She squeezes my thigh and stares at me until she gives me another kiss, but this one is hot. She puts her tongue in my mouth, and she sloppily dominates our kissing. I felt nothing, but I knew that Alicia was getting fed.
