The students walked around the fertility complex, following the worker who showed them the first machine.
"People begin living here." The worker began telling the students about how we create people. The facility was huge, full of machines and storage units. The whole fertility cycle happened in this place. This was the first time the students got to see what happened. "This is how all of you, and all people, began."
The students looked around in awe, seeing how each machine was able to do its own thing, perfectly, every time. Machines are better than people. That's a truth everyone knows. No human can be perfect. The only thing they can do perfect is make machines. They are perfect. Each single task is to be completed by a machine. There's only two things the machines can't do. Innovate and love. The two human capabilities.
"Machines are perfect. Did you know there used to be no machines? Over a thousand years ago there was only people working." The students stared in awe, shocked. Murmurs and gasps escaped their mouths. "It's true. Nothing worked. There were mistakes happening all the time. And people were born out of other people." They all laughed. It was the craziest thing imaginable. A person coming from another person. "There were mistakes there too, but these machines never make a mistake. When kids were born out of people, some were crippled, some were stupid, and some were ugly." All the students were howling with laughter. "Its true." The worker began laughing along with the students. "It is quite amusing, I agree. Now, shall we move on?"
"Were the stupid kids bad?" one of the students echoed. "Was it their fault?"
The worker looked worried. He pressed a button on his belt. "They were awful. You should be following along with everyone else. Stop your criminal thinking. This is your warning."
They moved on to the next machine, explaining how each would work. Each student would one day become a worker at this place or another one like it. Eventually, they moved onto the most important machine of all.
"This might as well be the most important machine of them all." The students looked through the glass at the small embryos inside. Each one was shaped like a human, but very small and round. They weren't moving. "This is where they get their MindChip. There used to be no MindChip as well. People had nothing!" The students were shocked. They couldn't do anything! Not without MindChip. They saw the triangular chip be inserted into the embryo's head. It did everything. It brought up their screens, it stored your information, and best of all, it processed Pox. Sweet, sweet Pox. The MindChip was issued by the government. MindChip made people safe. It caught the criminals. It killed the people who had rebellious thoughts.
"I think people should be born naturally. Out of people. That's how it was, right?" the same boy questioned."
People were shocked. "Young man you must stop now. This is better than the old way." His face was red. This was a rare occurrence. No one says this. This kind of person was extremely rare. He walked back around a corner, tapped on his temple, and said "We might have to eliminate that one." He walked back out with a fake smile posted on his face. "Let's move on." They walked into the next room.
"We raise them like machines. They are basically programmed. Look here. These are the shockings." Little needles electrified the babies heads. "Each shock makes them think something we want them to think. They are programmed to enjoy what their adult tasks are. If they enjoy it, they'll do it well."
All the students watched up at the shockings, knowing full well it happened to them. All of them were awestruck. It was the most amazing thing they had ever seen.
"This is so weird." Everyone turned to the boy who spoke. It was him. The boy who kept questioning things. "I mean, why can't we have people choose what they like?" Some of the students knew what was about to happen, and some didn't. The tour guide walked to the other side of the room. He spoke inaudibly into his MindChip. Some people were watching the boy, waiting for what was about to happen. Some looked away, too frightened. The room was silent, everyone scared. The boy looked around, confused and frightened. A small buzzing noise started, a smooth, consistent noise. It slowly got louder. It was coming from the young boy, who had a look of fear plastered on his face. People were scared. They didn't know what to expect. Some kids watched with pale white faces. Some looked away, crying. The boy grabbed his head. "Ouch," he cried out. His face was red as a tomato. Blood was leaking from his nose. He was breathing heavily, like he had just finished running. Suddenly, he began screaming. The screams were extremely loud. He tried to stand up, but fell in defeat. The boy was screaming and crying. Blood came from his nose and mouth, it was almost like a fountain. He continued to scream, in awful pain. Almost everyone was looking away now. But the screaming stopped.
People slowly looked back at him. He was lying on the floor, surrounded by a large pool of dark red blood. His face no longer had an expression on it. His sunken eyes seemed to stare into space.
"Look and learn," the tour guide explained. "This is what happens to criminals." All the students knew what had happened. It was the KillBot. It had killed.
