I froze in the middle of my attempt to take my shoes off, my right leg was half in the air while I was standing on my left leg.

My eyes widened and I quickly shot my head upwards to meet my mother's hard stare. She stood in the middle of the entrance with her arms folded over her chest and a disgusted expression on her face as she stared holes into me.

I continued to remove my shoes but answered my mother at the same time, "he took me out for coffee."

Vague, but it was the truth. He did take me out for coffee. I'm sure she doesn't want to hear all the boring details of my life anyway so why answer with a full sentence.

I've learnt to answer my parents in short vague answers as I grew up. They never liked it when I rambled about anything or tried to explain myself.

That's why I was also always in trouble when I was smaller. They never listened to my explanations about anything or my excuses for things. They ignored it all and blamed me for whatever went wrong in the house. They didn't even care who really was at fault, I always took the blame.

"Why would he want to take someone like you out for coffee?" My mother scoffed, her nose wrinkling upwards in disgust.

"Don't know." I shrugged as I took my cap off my head and walked into the house and straight passed my mother. She stepped to the side trying to keep as much distance as she could between us.

"Did you seduce your sister's boyfriend?"

And that got my attention. My steps came to a halt and I turned to look my mother in the eye as I spoke, "are you being serious right now?"

"Dead serious you brat!" My mother scoffed, "and honestly I'm not surprised. I knew you were a rotten child the moment I laid eyes on you."

"Did you even lay your eyes on me? Did you even notice me once since I was born? Or were your eyes always fixated on Mina."

"Don't change the subject you brat!" My mother yelled, "you're going to go up to your sister's room and you are going to apologise to her and promise that you'll never even look at Jaemin again. Understood?"

"Sorry, no can do mother. Jaemin broke up with Mina today and wanted to go back to what we use to be like with one another before Mina joined the picture. So no, I will not apologise for speaking to him or spending time with him. And I definitely am not going to stop spending time with him."

"You little whore!" My mother yelled, lifting her hand and slapping me across the face. "I thought I told you not to call me mother and how dare you refuse an order from me!"

My head moved to the side from the impact and I held my cheek with my hand as I looked back at my mother with a blank expression.

She really hasn't changed since I was little. She would always call me a brat, a bitch and a whore ever since I was little.

Whenever she would get angry or frustrated she would use me as her punching bag, or in this case, her slapping bag.

I removed my hand from my cheek and my eyes landed on the droplets of bright red liquid on the tips of my fingers.

My eyes flickered to my mother's hand and I saw the giant spiky ring that was very clearly displayed on her finger.

I chuckled humorlessly, "you never change."

"How dare you speak to me like that? I'm not someone you can talk to however you want! Show some respect you brat!"

"I only respect those who deserve respect, you, unfortunately, do not qualify." I retorted.
