With a painful off, the winged stranger barely caught Amelia moments before she came crashing to the ground below. Feeling it’s wing clipping the ground while it twisted and turned, trying to avoid the guards and the arrows that were fired upon them. Immediately going for the wall that surrounded the kingdom, hearing Amelia grumble and groan out.

Amelia opened her eyes to  look at her savior. Once again surprised the stranger was only a kid like her. His round baby face was covered in black soot from the earlier attack.  His icy blue eyes filled with fear and his blonde hair was coated with fresh and old blood.

“That was beyond stupid!” The stranger cried out, hugging Amelia closely to his chest to tightly Amelia could feel his heart pounding away.

“I know…” Amelia chuckled, resting her tired head upon his shoulders as tears streamed down her face.

“What if I wasn’t there? What if I couldn’t catch you in time?!”

“Then I would have gone splat.”

“You hitting the ground would have caused the war to become worse than it already is!”

“Aye...What’s your name?” Amelia barely listened to his words, her adrenaline was wearing off quickly and the world around her began to grow fuzzy and warm. She couldn’t stop the tears from coming.

    “Angel.”

“Angel...thank...thank…” Amelia’s sluggish voice trailed off. Quickly Angel looked down as he feared she was dead, but was relieved when he heard her gentle snore. Shaking his head, he knew it there was no time to waste.

It felt like an eternity before Angel saw the familiar sights of the camp. The endless amount of trees blending together in the darkness of the night made him begin to lose hope. Swiftly landing on the ground in the middle of camp, surrounded by three empty makeshift huts. Letting out a groan he was happy to finally be back on the ground, despite his body having another opinion. Flying used muscles he never knew he had before and the distance he flown made him want to crawl under the covers and not move for a month. But there was still a long way to go. He glanced down at Amelia and saw she was still out cold. Good. It would be better to fly without her causing attention to them. Despite the enormous castle was only a speckle in the distance, there was still knights who ventured this far out. Hunting for those who have committed crimes against the kingdom. Shaking his head he entered one of the huts and gingerly set Amelia down upon the straw bedding. Knowing it wasn’t the most comfortable places to sleep, but it would keep her warm with fall baring its nose around the corner. Glancing up at the hut’s roof, he noticed the gentle rays of daylight peeking through the cracks and holes. Casting a faint warmth into the hut. Birds merrily began their songs without a care in the world. It was almost as though the events of last night didn’t occur. Letting out a sigh he went to settle down when something on Amelia caught his attention. Her gown was soaked with fresh blood and had a tear in it. He poked her cheeks a couple of times to make sure she was asleep, relieved she didn’t make a noise nor budge.

“Forgive me princess.” Angel knew he should never see a lady in nothing but her undergarments, nor should he touch a princess, but if this was a wound it needed to be addressed. Nervously he grabbed the ends of her dress and pulled up, his cheeks turning a deep shade of red, until he reached the source on her mid calf. He prayed the blood came off of him, but to his horror, he saw a long deep gash running down the side of her calf. She must not have been fully covered with the blanket before she hastily jumped out.

“You’re so stupid...If you would have just…” He let out a sigh as he looked behind him, seeing nothing in sight that would be useful to bind her leg. Thinking they must have taken most of it to the sight. “Forgive me again princess.” He began to make the hole in her dress bigger and wider until he had a long strip of dress. Her gown know reaching down to her kneecaps. “I promise I’ll get you some new clothing when we get to camp.” He muttered, binding her leg the best he could. Just wanting to stop the bleeding. Knowing proper help wasn’t for miles. At least another day’s worth of travel. It didn’t help that his search party didn’t turn up either. He hoped they were alright. Smacking himself in the face he reminded himself that there was no time to waste. Quickly he placed some of the hay on top of Amelia before settling down a few feet away from her, closing his eyes and reminding himself that he only needed to sleep for a little bit.

When he finally awoken once again he noticed the hut felt unusually warm. Indicating it was past sun high. Feeling his achy muscles protest every moment as he sat up, wondering why he agreed to this. He was fourteen for heaven’s sake. He shouldn’t be fighting for his freedom nor have to save a princess from her death. He wiped off his face with his sleeve, feeling it sting from the blast he took to the face yesterday. It felt swollen and painful this morning, just like the rest of his body. Shaking his head he forced himself to his feet, feeling as though ten extra pounds were added to his body, and walked over to where Amelia was still soundly asleep. With a grumpy huff he awkwardly squatted while he pulled Amelia onto his back, wedging her between his soft wings. Placing her limp arms over his shoulders and praying she stayed in place when he grabbed onto her legs. Once secure he attempted to rise to his feet, swaying from the weight, as his body trembled in protest. This was going to be a long flight. With another huff he bolted out of the door and took off into the warm afternoon sky.
