"Matt! Dude, get up!"
"Huh... wha-OH SHIT! SHITSHITSHIT it's almost eight!"
"Get out of bed, dude! Exams start in ten minutes!"
"Dammit, Steven! Why the hell didn't you wake me up?!"
"I did! Just now!"
"I would punch you but I don't have the time."
Matt ran to the door and ran out to his car. It was a cold January morning, and the windows were frosted over. He didn't have time to scrape off the ice, so he improvised. He rolled down the driver seat window and stuck his head out. It isn't the best way to drive on an icy road, but he was desperate to pass his engineering exam.
He swerved into his parking space, jumped out the still open window, and ran into the school.
"Okay, okay, I still have two minutes," Matt said under his breath. He ran to his classroom and got to his room just as the door was closing. Matt ran to the door just a second too late and the door was shut, locking him out. The professor looked through the window and gave Matt a pitiful look, almost as if he were saying "sorry" in the most sarcastic way possible.
Knowing he'd been defeated, he slowly walked back to his car and drove back to his dorm. Since he didn't have any other class exams that day, he spent his day sitting on his room-mate's couch eating Pringles and watching Doctor Who. Later that evening, his room-mate came back to their room.
"Matt! What did I tell you about eating on my couch?!" Steven screeched.
"Yeah yeah whatever. I'll clean it up."
"That's what you said about the dishes in the sink a week ago. By the way, they're still there."
"Man, I'm not in the mood."
"Why? What happened?"
"I was late to my engineering exam and got locked out."
"Dude that's brutal. Sorry. I'll clean up the couch if you want-"
"No no I got it."
"You sure? 'Cause there's a party going down Vica's dorm..."
This got Matt's attention. Vica was the reason Matt even went into engineering in the first place. He was trying to get her attention and ask her out. This might be his chance to ask her.
"When's the party?"
"It starts at eight, down at 'H' hall."
"It's almost eight thirty--"
"Guess I lost track of time."
"WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU."
