Wind rustled by black hair as my mother and I walked through the thick dense forest, my mother not one of the pathetic excuses for mothers I had in Olympus, the mother that had wiped my tears on fathers day when the mean kids would tease me for being fatherless, the mother who brushed my hair and took me to hospital when I was struck by lightning, the mother who actually cared. "You can write me or I don't know call me if you need anything Red or you can try to get in contact with one of your other parents. " She hissed the word parents like it was poison on her delicate tongue. Of course I knew I had more than 2 parents I had known since I was 6 always praying to my parents always trying and failing to control all of my powers, always pondering what had led the Greek gods make such a mistake as I myself walk the earth, everyone else just thought I was adopted my mother with her straight fiery red hair and faint Irish accent was so different from my curly black hair and natural New York voice, I remember people giving us strange looks every time she used to drop me off at school, but no matter what she was my mother. "Yeah right like they would answer. " I hissed bitterly. She sighed and held the bridge of her nose "Red you know I really don't want you to be away from me for 2 years but you have to, your almost fourteen your scent is getting way to strong living in New York isn't cutting it anymore. And besides when you turn eighteen you'll be summoned to Olympus anyways." I rolled my eyes but stopped and hugged her when I saw she was shaking with tears. "Every holiday Mom I promise." I whispered to her trying to hold in my own tears but groaned as a steady rainfall began, the weather mocking my emotions my main power. "Oh Red I'm so sorry I know you're going to adjust." My mother sobbed moving us along the rain was salty making me realize it wasn't rain at all it was tears that streamed down my Italian seeming face, the world was crying for me and my mother's parting. A strange stirring began in my chest as I looked up at the arch that was in front of us, Greek words morphed into English "Camp Half-blood" it read in orange shimmering letters, the safe haven I had heard about for years. "Goodbye my lovely daughter." My mother whispered pressing her forehead to mine and setting down my single vintage suitcase and walking away taking my heart with her. "Goodbye Mother." I choked out picking up the monster like suitcase and gripping it with wet hands. I took a big breath and stepped through the barrier separating mortals from Greek blood and bringing the rain with me.
