Long ago when kings ruled over the lands and pirates sailed the seas there was a hidden civilization of mermaids living in the depths of the ocean. The lived freely and peacefully without any interruption by the savages that was mankind. Until they were discovered, a young careless mermaid had gone to the surface and was spotted by fishermen. They captured her bringing her back to the ruthless king. He was intrigued with the young girl making her his pet. He then created a bounty for mermaids, he was willing to pay anything to find more so he could experiment on them and make them his own. This was the beginning of the hunt for mermaids, men set out to the seas to find these mysterious creatures all in an act of greed. The once peaceful lives of the mermaids became a memory, for now, they were terrorized, forced to run from their homes in search of safety. Many were killed in this process leading to a genocide of a once magnificent species. From the thousands of mermaids, only a couple hundred remained, running in fear of their lives.
