"Jazzy!" Brock screamed, running into the hospital room, and jumping on the bed.

"Ooh careful Brock, my leg is hurt." I winced, picking up my leg, to move it out of the way.

"Brock, you have to be careful with Jazzy. She can't play for a while." Dad tried to explain to the 4 year old, with a stern voice.

"Okay!" Brock cheerfully said, and went to go punch my balloons.

I turned to the doorway. Gavin, Avia, and Emmi were standing there, scared to enter.

"Hey guys." I smiles at them.

They turned to look at each other, and came up to me.

Avia and Emmi hugged me.

"I missed you." Emmi said, and Avia nodded.

"I missed you guys too." I said, hugging them back.

They let go, and Gavin came up to me.

"Gosh Jazz, you scared me half to death." He said giving me a tight hug.

"I love you Gav, and I'm okay." I told him.

I could see he was fighting back tears.

He is such an amazing brother.

We stayed in the room, and talked for a bit. They caught me up with everything that is going on back at the house.

I've been here for 2 nights, and I really miss home. I can hopefully go back by tomorrow night.

School has already started, and I was pretty sad I missed my first day of high school.

I'm also worried, what people will think when they see my eye, leg, and hair situation. It will be hard to make new friends.

"We brought you gifts!" Emmi screamed unexpectedly.

The kids ran over to this plastic bag, and brought out some wrapped presents.

"Aww you guys shouldn't have, but..."

"Jazz, shut up and open your presents." Gavin said, tossing me one.

I laughed, and started opening it.

A pink Polaroid camera!

"Omigosh THANKYOU!" I jumped up and down in my bed, but that hurt my head, so I stopped.

"No problem, I picked it out!" Gavin smiled back at me.

I opened the other ones, new phone cases, makeup, clothes and so much more awesome stuff! I didn't really deserve all of it, but I felt so grateful!

"Thank you all so much! I'm sorry about what happened, and what I put you through..."

"Jazz, we told you we will talk about it later." Mom said, sounding kinda tired.

I nodded, and started checking out all my presents.

"I'm gonna go get the kids something to eat, in the cafeteria." Mom grabbed her purse, and kissed me on the forehead.

"Okay, bye guys!" I waved at them, as they all left.

I was now left alone with Dad.

I could see he hasn't had that much sleep in the last few days...

He sighed loudly, took of his hat, and scratched his head.

He looked up at me, with a sad smile.

"It was right after we got married. Colette we pregnant with Gavin." He picked up his chair, and moved it closer to me.

"We had this friend, who was very close to us, her name was Nicole."

"She was such a bright and happy person, until she got a divorce, and got addicted to alcohol."

"She was your mother."

The words hit me like a truck. The world spinned. Nothing made sense.

My head started to pound again. I rubbed my temples, and groaned.

I looked up at dad. Tears building up in his eyes.

"Well... I..." He stated, trying to hold back crying. I haven't seen him like this since Malachi.

"She couldn't take care of you. You were neglected, abused, we jut couldn't see our friend fall apart like that. We wanted to make sure that this little baby would have an amazing life."

He held my hand.

"So we adopted you."

"Nicole moved to Europe because she has family there. And that was the last we ever heard of her."

He looked at the ground.

"Do you miss her... Sometimes?" I asked him, my head still pounding.

"Of course." He started to smile, thinking of the memories.

"She was one of those crazy friends, who could always make you laugh, and she always had a positive attitude."

"That's why we were so surprised about what happened to her. We had to keep you safe."

He looked up at me, and I gave him a small smile.

"You adopted me legally?" I asked him, touching the IVs on my arm.

He laughed. "Of course we did Jazzy."

"Just at the 'Bundles of Joy' adoption centre here in Idaho."

I nodded. We sometimes drive past it, and I used to see mom and dad look at each other, with sad eyes. Now I know why.
