I woke up energized, never before so happy. I looked around my room and then I saw it. My dreamboard, that I made in freshman year of high school. The first thing on it was to move to Burbank California. My dreams were all set and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life. I had my bags all packed, with my keys on top. I got out of bed and did my morning routine. I then walked pass my father and rattled the keys in his face.
"Maya? Where are you going?" My father asked me as I slipped on my shoes.
"Dad, I told you last night me and Ryan are going to get out nails done before we have to be to the school by noon."
"That is right baby girl. Your all grown up, and before I know it you'll be on your way to California. Leaving me here." My father said as tears rolled down his cheeks. He was always the one to tell me things and start to cry. I lost my mother in the fifth grade, and after that he became very empty and emotional. I hugged him and reminded him to be at the school by 1 pm. I ran out the door and started my car. I just could not wait to get to California. All of my dreams would come true within a week. As I drove I just could not keep Tom, and Eric out of my head.I turned into Ryan's drive way to see her standing on her porch.
"Ahhhhh" I heard her scream as I pulled the car to a stop. She ran down her porch steps and all the way to my car. She opened the door and told me about how excited she was and how much she was going to miss me. I told her she could visit me as much as possible and we could call nightly. We arrived at the U.S Nail Salon and we walked in.
"Hello." A short woman welcomed us.
" Hello, we have a reserved time for 10:20. " I said with a smile.
"That's great! Do you have your mail color planed?" The short woman asked.
Me and Ryan said no as she pointed to the nail polish board. We walked over an looked for colors. Our school colors were red but we both decided on an aquamarine blue tone. We walked over to the lady and she say both of us down. She worked an Th and nails first then mine. We paid and said thank you and drive back to my house.
"Ryan?" I said with concern.
" Yes, Maya? What's wrong? "
"I'm so worried. What happens if I don't make it on to FBE. What if Tom, Tori, or Eric don't like me? What if I can't afford to live there?" I started to hyperventilate. Ryan tried to calm me down. We had less than an hour to get to the school. We got in my car and drove to the school.
We got in our " robes" and sat in our seats. Soon the principal walked up on stage and called us up one by one to get our diploma. Then it was my turn for my speech. I read what I had about the loss of our friend in freshman year, and about how we grew together, helping each other. How we all had plans for our lives. I closed with a quote that they said to us on our first day. "Be proud of were you go, not who was in that story." Then we threw out caps in the air and caught them when they came down. I ran to Ryan and hugged her. Then I whispered good bye. I unwrapped my arms and walked to my dad. He was tearing up and I hugged him.
"Thank you." I told him. Then we left, walked to our cars. We raced home, by then it was three pm. He helped me being my bags down, and handed me a check. I said I love you, one last time and got in my car. Just drove. Until I felt at home.
