The wind blew softly in one direction. I shivered from the cold winter breeze, I closed my eyes listening to the forest as the trees creaked and the critters hopped about.
My eyes softly closed as my head nodded back onto the tree I was up against. After becoming comfortable in my crunchy snow bed, I fell asleep unintentionally.
When I awoke the sun had started to set. Looking around, the forest seemed to look, different. "I shouldn't have stayed this long!" I thought to myself as I looked around for my trail home. Spotted I walked toward it breaking the silence with the crunch of the snow under my boots.
I heard a rustling, suddenly a squirrel hopped out of the brush with a stuffed face. I tried to stay still as to not scare it away, but then as the squirrel stared at me an acorn popped out of it's mouth making me laugh. As if in embarrassment the squirrel grabbed his nut and scurried off into the forest leaving his foot prints in the snow.
Still giggling at the squirrel I was completely stunned at what I heard, my heart stopped, for a second I didn't know what was happening. A gunshot had pierced through the woods. The forest was now silent except for the eco of the gunshot. My legs moved swiftly through the woods, my brain not knowing where. Then I realized, I was going toward the sound.
My heart was racing not knowing what could be out there. My brain couldn't figure out how I knew where to go.
Finally I stopped. "What was it? It was almost a polar bear but somehow it wasn't." My curiosity took over fear. In it's shoulder an arrow stuck out. But hadn't I heard a gunshot? In the chest was blood. The arrow must've already been there.
Suddenly I shivered, what if it was dead? I couldn't bear it any longer I had to do something! Yet all I did was curl up by a tree thinking. What could I do? Tears where slipping down my cheeks, I was choking like my heart was in my throat. Then I heard a sort of growl. I looked up from where I was sitting, the thing had moved its leg under him as to try to stand up, even though he fell back down with a thump. My heart fell back down in ease.In the distance a wood pecker started pecking a hollow tree, since it was hollow it made a really loud sound go through the forest. This sound sounded particularly like a gunshot. The polar bear thing carefully turned around in fear, I was behind him! I started to stand up while it turned around. I was ready to run even though I didn't think it could stand up.
It fully turned around, our eyes locked. I wasn't afraid. He didn't seem scared either. He opened his mouth and made a weird kind of call. Translation: "Royal! I've found her."
Suddenly I heard a howl translation: good I've found him! " And following the sound was a giant wolf bounding through the forest. There was something on him though, what was it? Or who?
Then it came to me "Zack!?!" I yelled
"HELP!" Zack cried flying around on the wolf.
The wolf stopped and dumped Zack off. "Ouch!" He said Rubbing his head while glaring at the wolf.Zack looked at me his face was confused. He stood up and said "I didn't think I liked you enough to be in my dreams!"
"What are you talking about!?!" I said
"Well this is a dream right?" He said his voice sounding worried.
"If your here, I don't think it is." I said realizing how weird this was.
"What! are you saying you don't even like me enough to be in your dreams!" He said jokingly.
"What are you even talking about?" I said chuckling.
"I'm sorry Zealeah but you need to put aside your feelings and get back to the point at hand." He said holding his hand out to the animals.
"Wait wha- " Zack cut me off by putting his finger on my lips.
"Sh. Let's go figure things out with these animals." He said trying not to laugh. He walked toward the animals. I followed giggling.
The polar bear made another noise translation: "I'm wounded and even if I can walk soon I won't be able to carry her for a long time."
The wolf howled quietly translation: "don't worry it'll work out just sleep"
I was wondering whether to go home or not. If I leave, will I have missed out on something. I couldn't have know if it would be missing out or not, what if this whole thing was fake? I walked and thrust my hand at a tree. "Definitely not a dream." I said Rubbing my red hand.
I honestly had no idea what to do.I plopped down into the snow. What's going to happen if I stay with these creatures? Am I going to go on adventures like in those books?
So many questions filled my head that no one could tell the answer of.I heard another growl from where I had left to sit in the forest.
Translation: "Royal! Where's the girl?"
Shortly after the wolf came pounding through the forest sniffing me out. Finally she found me eating some snow on the floor of the forest. Birds chirped and trees swayed in the wind. Time past, by now the wolf was sitting next to me starring and occasionally turning her ears to a rustling noise in the distance.
I looked at the sky so dark except for the twinkle and shine of the stars. The wolf got up from its seat and headed to where the bear thing growled. Translation: "Royal bring the girl!" Followed by a low growl that sounded mad. Translation: "I am Bay!"
I stood up and followed not knowing why. The wind blew softly behind me pushing me forward.
"Hey Zealeah! I was worried that you had left! This creature thing wont let me go heh heh." Said Zack his face scared.
"Its ok Zack I'm just spending the night here. Do you know how to start a fire?"
"Do I know how to start a fire? Do I know how to start a fire!?"
"I take that as a yes?"
"Of course not! Not without matches!" Said Zack throwing a stick farther in the woods.
"I thought you did boy scouts?"
"I did. But all we did was eat cookies and stack rocks. It was a "boy scouts" it wasn't real it was just an excuse to make friends."
"Well than how are we not going to freeze to death?" Just then the wolf laid down and curled up with Zack.
"This is how. Come here!" Said Zack snuggling with the wolf.
I glanced at the bear, blood covered the front of his coat. I thought about sleeping with Zack, his incredibly loud snoring and random slaps to whoever is closest. I walked over to the bear and leaned against his back where no blood was.
I fell asleep and listened fo the stream near by.Authors note.
