For once, Nikki was the first one into work.
There had been no recent murders, so what remained was paperwork.
She and Jack were an item, and she was expecting their first child. She wasn't very far along-3 months, with a little bump.
Nikki put her phone on and decided to set about tidying her desk up. It was a bit of a mess, as she'd been struggling a bit with morning sickness and hadn't been in work as much as she'd like.
There was scraps of paper where she's written reminders and a sketch of Jack she'd done on an afternoon when there hadn't been any work to do.
She decided to put a playlist of her favourite songs on to make the work just a little bit easier.
The first song that came on was "In The Middle" by one of her favourite artists whose music her friend had introduced to her, Dodie Clark.
"What are you doing Friday?
Wanna help my worlds collide? Let's make a bow with old cut ties
Do you want his number?
Or shall I be the one to call? I haven't seen him much at all"Nikki danced along to the beat, it was infectious and even Jack had admitted that he enjoyed it.
Clarissa and Thomas made their way into work, but paused when they heard music and spotted Nikki.
"Oh, this is priceless!" Clarissa chuckled, getting her phone out to film it.
Nikki abandoned her tidying for a minute to dance, and sung along at the top of her lungs.
"You've got so much in common
Talk about your taste in women
I'll be in the middle
While you two get alongHey!"
Jack made his way into the Lyell, frowning when he saw Clarissa and Thomas at the door to the office. "Wha..?"
Nikki and Jack were living together, at hers-however, he was later than her because he'd gone out drinking with some mates to celebrate the fact that he was going to be a dad-it had gone on a bit longer than intended.
"Look at your partner-she's bonkers." Said Thomas, a smile on his face as Jack made his way up to them.
Jack saw Nikki dancing, and smiled, quickly making his way into the office.
He put his stuff down and made his way to Nikki, and began to dance with her.
She laughed, and kissed him.
It had taken them many years to realise their feelings, and had realised that they didn't want to be with anyone else but the other. And indeed, they didn't want to dance with anyone else unless it was with their love.
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the Silent Witness characters, I'm just borrowing them! Nor do I own "In The Middle" or any other of the wonderful songs by Dodie Clark.
