"Ohhh, I thought I heard the clippity clop of a unicorn!" Purred a familiar voice. I watched silently covered by the shadows, although my crimson eyes had a glow like appearance to them. If he didn't turn around, I would be alright.
"Why, there's only one thing missing... A touch of fear." He drew his long, bony finger and gently tapped it on the pleasant, golden projection of the child's dream. The dreamy unicorn rolled, wreathed and squealed as it was consumed by darkness. A jet black nightmare emerged, bucking and rearing as it hurtled wildly around the confined space- The unknown child stirred in her sleep. My eyes widened as I realised just what he had been planning all along, and what we were up against.
"That never gets old. Fear, fear! come on! Come on." He sang softly for the dark creature, The horse scrambled up with a an excited, hungry squeal. It shook its head before turning to its master. "What a pretty little nightmare!.. Now I want you, to go tell the others that the wait, is over."
While the dark horse tore off into the shadows, followed by sever others, Pitch strode to the window with a menacing grin across his narrow face- God how I wanted to wipe that straight off his face. He opened his mouth to drawl out another pointless remark that would go straight in one ear, aaannnd out the other. But through the night a small darker figure glided in, landing gently on the window. My faithful teammate and best friend- Opal. She squawked hoarsely at pitch twice in a very matter-of-fact tone before jumping down and fluttering towards the corner. The black bird landed on my shoulder, flexing her sharpened talons she stuck her beak near to my ear, whispering her message from the guardians. Of course not in English- more of a language that only a few people could decipher. I quietly walked to the bed side of the child, running my hand along their desk. Pitch narrowed his eyes as I cast my hand over the child's head. A red dust or even gas like substances drifted around her- Lucidity. The child was now aware of their dreams, totally in control of their own dreams, they would even remember them. It was my magic; mental manipulation.
"Well, well.. I thought you'd have given up on all, that." Drawled Pitch, Opal hissed at him from my shoulder, snapping her beak and fluffing her dark feathers. I snorted at him "did I ever?" And that was that- before he could reply and before something further happened I had already swept away on the back of Opal as she shifted to her unique form of a dragon. We needed to get to the pole before Pitch could fully launch his plan into action or the results would be devastating: the last thing we wanted was for the dark ages to repeat themselves.
The pair of us passed over the land and sea at breath taking speeds- I didn't know how far we were from Norths' place but I trusted Opal enough to know where she was taking us. They had to take my warnings seriously now- I had proof at this point that he was trying to rise to power again. But something caught me by surprise... Why were there northern lights overhead? Oh yes, I knew they were a common sight but these were North's. The sun was starting to emerge over the horizon, I could vaguely make out Norths workshop a few miles across the ice fields.
"Well Opal, lets hope that he takes walk ins." I grinned, patting her on the head. She made a throaty nickering sound in response.
