Sam's POV

"Hey, Sam!" I looked over my shoulder to see Rachel half-jogging towards me. "Your not going to believe what just happened in History."
"What Rach? What happened that so important that you had to interrupt me from getting to my next class?" I joked.
"We just got a new girl."
"Damn, your sure?"
"Yes! I was right there!"
"Alright," I said, turning to go to my next class.

Wow, I wonder what her name was, and why she joined so late in the year. It was May, and school would be out in two weeks. Seems a little odd to me. And besides, our town is so damn small, that we never get new people.

As I entered Chemistry, the bell rang just as I stepped into the room.
"Cutting it close, don't you think Miss Carter?" Mr. Tanner asked, as I sat on my stool.
"I apologize, Mr. Tanner."
"Well, don't let it happen again, Carter." He scolded.

You see, all of my teachers and classmates call me Carter because of my parents. They run Carter industries, which is one of the biggest industries in America, and almost as big as Walmart. They make money, which makes us rich, which makes me popular and I'm okay with that.

Mr. Tanner then scanned the room. "Class, we do have a new student in here today, and her name is," he looked at his roll sheet, "Jane?"
"Um, no, Mr. Tanner," Jane called, from the opposite side of the room, "That would be my name."
"Oh, sorry," he said, "Then," he scanned the paper once more, "Ah! Is your name Daniel?" The new girls face nodded in approval, "Yes, but please call me Danny."
"Ok, Danny." He said, looking at his stack of papers on his desk. "Well, I'm glad you came here, because all year we have had one group of three, and I particularly enjoy my classes working in partners, so it looks like you will be working with Sam for the remainder of the year." He pointed at me, and I waved to her, so she knew where to look. "Could the two of you gather your belongings and move to that station over there? Thank you."

I gathered my stuff, as she did, and moved myself to a new station. She sat right next to me, as Mr. Tanner went over the new reaction we would me making today.
"So, your name is Sam?" She asked.
"Yes," I answered. "Danny is yours?"
She nodded, "How much have you heard about me? Tell me, so I can make sure none of it is rumors, please."
"Um, okay. All I heard is that your new," I said.
"Well, yes," she looked at me, as if asking for approval.
"That's really all I heard, honest."
"Ok, thanks." We began working on the reaction. "What all do I need to know about this school?"
"Well, for starters, you are a senior, right?"
"Um, yeah. This is a senior class, I think."
"Oh yeah, your right. Sorry. "Anyways, I advise you to stay clear of the freshmen, they are babies. Don't go near the shady kids, I'm pretty sure that they do drugs. I'll show you these groups at lunch, by the way." I offered, as I went on. She nodded. "The band nerds are hilarious, and it's way cool to hang out with them, unless you are one."
She nodded, "Yes, I play in percussion."
"Oh fun." I knew nothing about band.

Mr. Tanner walked up just then.
"Sam, Danny, your reaction ended up well, I see." Mr. Tanner said, as he walked over, examining our work while scribbling on his clipboard. He soon handed us each a sheet of paper that has been written on with red pen. Danny and I both looked down at the paper, at each other, and back at him.
"You two make a great team," He said, and walked over to the other stations.
"Well, at least my first grade in this school was a 100," Danny said.
"Yeah, it sure was," I replied, right as the bell rang. By that time, the room filled with noise form supplies, chairs, and teenagers moving about.
"Class, clean up your area. I want them spotless before you leave!" Me. Tanner ordered.

Me and Danny quickly worked to exceed his expectations. Soon, we aren't finished and out the door.

I rushed through the hall, thinking Danny was right behind me.
"The cafeteria is just this way. I'll show you where to eat, if you don't have a lunchbox, and where the groups sit-" I turned to look behind me, and she wasn't there. Danny was going the opposite direction from the rest of the school.
"Danny?" I called, "Danny where are you going?" I chased her, trying to grab her, but I couldn't. She went right through the doors, in which lead to outside. "Danny!"

She was gone.

I attempted to step through the doors, but Rachel was coming down the hall towards me.
"Umm, Sam? Is it me? Or is my popular bestie trying to go outside, a place we never go unless we really have to." She said.
"Yeah, sorry. It was nothing. I thought I saw, a, dog or something." I turned and started walking through the hall with her.
"Eww! Those slobbery mutts are gross. Why would you go outside even then? Are you feeling ok?"
"Yes, I'm fine. I don't know why I did that. Sorry."
"Ok, let go eat something, and maybe you feel more like yourself, ok?"
"Yeah, ok."
