They'll be safe.
Those three words rang in my head over and over again. My eyes opened, I expected to see some form of light, but there was nothing. Only darkness.
Where the hell was I?
I tried to stand, but my head hit what felt like a ceiling. I groaned, reaching around. This was some sort of box- no. This is a trunk, this is a trunk of a car.
"Hey!" I yelled out, banging on the lid. "Can anyone hear me!"
I heard a bunch of loud gears, making me cover my ears. What the hell... then finally, the light I'd been searching for, stinging my eyes like needles.
"Right on time." Peter's obnoxious voice rang through my ears.
I grabbed the edge of the trunk, stumbling out on my face. My head was pounding, it took me a second to see the dirt in front of me.
"I died....." I whispered, remembering my last moments before everything went black.
"Temporarily. No need to be dramatic." Peter scoffed.
I stumbled to my feet, glaring up at him. "You got what you wanted, I need to know you're going to hold up your end of the bargain."
"You don't trust me?" He asks, placing a hand on his chest. "Smart girl."
"I swear, no harm will befall your friends by my hand." He promises. "As long as you hold up your end of the deal."
"I will." I said reluctantly.
"Well then, let's get going, we're already late." He holds out his arm to me. I don't take it, but I stand beside him as we walk.
I didn't realize till now we were in the school parking lot. The music coming from inside giving me a painful headache.
"How long was I dead?" I asked.
"Just since this morning." He said. "Twelve hours, give or take."
The school formal was going on now. But what were we doing here?
"Why are we here?" I asked. We weren't headed inside either, he was leading us towards the fields.
"Just picking something up." Peter said.
There were so many sounds distracting me, one after another. Like it was all happening inches from me. The bright lights of the lacrosse field were too much for me and I stopped walking with Peter.
"Jackson, is that you?" Lydia's voice shrieked. No, not her.
"Peter, don't!" I growled, trying to adjust to the light so I could see.
"Lydia!" Stiles' voice screamed her name from across the field. "Run!"
Lydia screamed and I ran forward, moving quickly in the direction it was coming from. I growled, lunging at Peter when I finally saw him. He stepped aside and I fell forward in the grass. I rolled to the side, digging my fingers into the wet ground.
My head whipped up, and I roared loudly. The light wasn't as bad now, I could see Peter leaning over Lydia's bloody body to keep Stiles from getting to her. Then he looked my way, his face freezing in fear.
"Kara?" he asked.
"Beautiful, isn't she?" Peter smirked.
I didn't know what they were talking about until I looked down. I removed my fingers from the ground, and noticed jet black claws protruding from my nails. I scrambled back, looking down at them in disbelief.
To the side of me was a puddle, and that's when I saw my face. Aside from the fangs, the colors of my eyes were a bright glowing white. I stumbled back more, looking back at Stiles. My eyes filled with shame. What have I done?
