I could feel every atom in my body burning like the fires of hell. I tried to scream as the light engulfed me but I couldn't seem to open my mouth-or move at all. I closed my eyes trying to save my eyes from being burned to a crisp. It felt like I'd been burning for an eternity. I could feel my flesh shriveling, I dared only a quick peak. I gasped surprised, I was in the most beautiful hall I had ever seen. I turned in a slow circle taking it all in. The burning feeling in my skin slowly faded away to a small ache. I was fairly certain my skin was burnt black so I glanced down and saw it looked perfectly healthy. Well that's a relief I guess, at least I don't look like some sort of demon with flakes of skin hanging off of my body. As I looked up again a man and a woman were striding my way, the man walked as if he ruled the world and the woman was gliding gracefully across the floor. I'm not exactly sure why but my body was bowing down when they stopped in front of me.
"Girl, you may stand and present yourself. Who are you and how did you get here?" the woman spoke in such an authoritative manner that I was choked up for words. I gulped, looked down, and attempted to speak,
"I'm Adelina Charity, and I-well I'm not exactly sure how I got here. One moment I was in my living room with a book reciting words and the next I'm here with you." The woman glanced at the man with a look of concern, I noticed they were both wearing crowns. They were exquisite crowns, their intricate designs surprising me. They sparkled every time they moved their heads, the light dancing off the gems creating illusions on the walls. The man sighed and took the woman's arm,
"That was the Dragon Book I assume you're talking about. It is a portal from your realm to ours, only the Dragon Bride is allowed into our realm from yours. So you must be the special girl this millennium." The Dragon Bride? Did I hit my head, and how hard did I hit it? Obviously this is my brains' way of telling me that I'm knocked out. This surely can't be real, right?
"The Dragon Bride? What is that and who are you people?" I blurted out. The man had a look of amusement dance between his eyes.
"We are the Queen and King of the Dragon Realm. Welcome to our home Adelina, you have 2 weeks to prove to the prince that you are Queen material." He tells me as if I should already know this information. I look at him astonished, I blink,
"And if I don't prove to him?" I glance down nervously, afraid to ask the question, "what will happen to me?" The woman looked at me at me will the most cruel look I have ever seen, there was no remorse or mercy.
"You will die the worst way possible. You will never see the light of day, you will never go back home, and you will die very, very slowly. I will make sure of that my dear." Then her eyes lightened, "Now, come with us dearie." She puts a hand on my back and leads me towards a door leading out of the hall.
