I pulled up at McDonald's just as my phone rang out, the instrumentals to Epiphany filling the car. Checking the caller-ID, I groaned inwardly and showed the screen to my brother, riding shotgun.

The little idiot grinned. "'Aight! Imma head out about now", and jumped out, slamming the door. I just managed to yell my order in time before it slammed. "And make sure you get me garlic mayo with my fries!". He just waved his hand without looking back and sauntered away.

Sighing, I slid the green call icon to the right and held up my phone. "Hi mom".

"Liz! Aren't you guys done yet? You've been gone all day. It's almost evening and you still have tons to pack!"

I rolled my eyes. Trust my mom to call going out for 2 hours "all day".

"Yeah mom, we're almost done. Just got a last-minute thing to pick up and we'll be home in a couple", I said, eyeing the McDonald's entrance. How long does it take to pick up an order seriously?

"Okay great. Did you remember to buy a laundry bag?"

"Yesss"

"And did you get those tupperware boxes like I said? I hope you're not planning to eat out of cardboard containers the whole year"

"YES mom. I got everything, and I gotta go. Let me come home and then you can inspect and criticize all my stuff as you please". A girl sat down in the car next to ours and opened her pizza box. Damn, it smelled good! Where the heck was my food coming from, Swabi?

"Okay okay. I was just checking. Be home soon."

"Yep yep"

"Oh and do NOT stop for food on the way back. I'm making your favorite, Chicken and rice and you better not lose your appetite over Burger King or Pizza Hut."

Oh.

"Um of course. You know I love eating your Chicken and Rice. And yeah, we won't pull over at a fast-food place."

It doesn't count if you're already in the parking lot, so technically not lying.

"Okay good. Bye then"

"Bye". The call ended and I slowly brought the phone back to the center console.

I'd been feeling lazy and queasy all morning, definitely not like a girl going off to another state for her junior year in college. Maybe it was the nerves, or the fact that I'd never stayed away from my family for any period of time. Or that I wasn't going to know anyone at my new college.

The girl next-door/car had pulled out and I could see across the parking lot, to where a group of teenagers were messing around a bench, eating burgers. Gosh, I missed being a teenager. Not the emo mood swings or horrible spurts of puberty, just the clueless-ness of it. Not worried about a thing beyond the next due assignment or my favorite artist releasing a new record.

And now, out of state college was feeling like a slap in the face. With a bucket of icy water.

But no matter. There'd be plenty of time to worry over that later. For now, I just wanted to soak up this moment. The sun was just beginning to set, and the sky was streaked a perfect orange. I was so going to miss this place.

I'd never been overly sentimental, especially not out loud, but college was starting to feel like a huge, looming roller-coaster that I'd be lucky to get out of as the same me.

I rolled down the windows, the sound of people and cars honking washing away the silence. Call it what you want, but to a city girl, these sounds begin feeling like home. Grinning, I shook my head. I sound really sentimental. About time to go after that brother and find my food. There better be a corpse inside to explain how long he took.

And there, wonder of wonders, he appeared, holding a bag full of food and that "I-swear-I-have-an-explanation" expression on his face. Hmm, to hose him down or jump into greasy-food bliss, that is the question.

Hey guys! This is my first-ever book so yikes. I'm terrified and also so excited. This is gonna be a Jungkook college au fanfic (as the description says) but yeah, we're getting there. Thanks for reading. Leave loads of comments, what you liked, what you didn't. I could use the criticism honestly xD

Love Bye!
