Although I live in America, I disagree with a lot of approaches here in education, in medicine and communication between people.
It was a dream of my husband to come here. In 2013 we won a Green Card in the lottery and had to make a decision. We decided to try. Even I didn't want to come here, also I didn't want to lose a chance to see another part of our planet. I have never traveled so far. I wanted to see how different it is. Now we are here for five years and I can compare a lot of life's aspects with my previous experience.
I understand that each coin has two sides. There are always some reasons why something is arranged that way. Even there are a lot of positive aspects in American style of life, right now I want to stop on some negative ones. For example, friendship. I base my point of view on my kid's school experience in America. I realized, that it is very hard to build a deep relationships and to make a real friends if you change your classmates every year. If you want to know more about you friend, you need to spend more time with him not only at school. It turns out enough difficult here, because of school ending time and transportation reasons. Unfortunately, it pushes our kids to social media.
Individualism is the second example. Before I came here, I saw in movies, that Americans has a tradition to greet a new people in the neighborhood with some kind words and cookies. In real life it turned out to be an old and disappearing tradition. Everyone lives by one and don't care about another. Individualism is particularly pronounced in business. Of course it is not bad to take care about yourself and your family, but sometimes people take advantage of others.
My third example is medicine. The one of the basic human rights is the right to life. I do not know how this basic right correlate with medicine system in America. In my mind it is unfair system which makes people feel unprotected and very stressful.
In conclusion I want to say that there is no ideal country, like there is no ideal people. I can do not like some American approaches, but they are out of circle of my influence. Only one thing I can do is to find my own way to feel me more comfortable in new country and respect its traditions. Also, I remember that I have a small advantage and a little bit more experience, because I had a chance to live in two different countries. I believe it help me to overcome life difficulties.
