It was still freezing, even for the dead of winter. 17° on a snowy December evening. The sun had set hours ago, leaving a small Yankee Candle, although permeating the air with hints of earthy, floral scents, the only source of light in the room.
"It's so coldd Elliott. Too cold." I smash my face into the pillow.
"I know baby. I'll get more blankets. You stay here." He sat up and walked into the hallway. The power had gone out in their neighborhood, leaving the streets deserted of light. My boyfriend and I were trying our best to keep warm huddled up in our bedroom.
"Here we are," He said, walking over to the side of me. He spread out another white down comforter and a fuzzy blanket, a complicated shade of blue. Elliott slid his legs under our ever-growing pile of blankets and let me cuddle up to him again. His warmth envelopes me, arms wrap around my stomach, pulling me into his chest. He holds me as close as physically possible. Not just to keep warm, but also to feel my breathing, heartbeat, to be reminded I'm alive. My head rests on his arm and I nuzzle my nose into the soft sleeve of his shirt. Our legs intertwine, our feet close together in an attempt to keep our freezing toes somewhat warm. Dreamland peaks through my conscious, and slowly I fall asleep, Elliott not letting me go until he too falls asleep.

When I open my eyes the next morning and the sun has long already risen, I turn around to see nothing but pale blue bed sheets and cold pillows.
"Elliott..." I groan tiredly. I don't have any desire to get up, but lying on your back, staring at the ceiling in an empty bed is more depressing than I would like. As I'm making the decision to finally stand up, I hear footsteps padding down the wood floor of the hallway. Before I have time to register what's going on, I feel a body thrown atop mine.
"Elliott?" He looks up at me, his hazel (yes, yes they are) irises drawing me into them. He smiles, showing his crooked teeth. How can one boy be so flawless and brilliant? He moves up closer to my face. As we both sit up, he makes his way onto my lap, straddling me. He takes my pink cheeks in his soft hands and kisses my lips gently.
"Good morning baby." He says lovingly. I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him into a hug. Elliott Hilton. He amazes me in everything he does. Every small, insignificant task leaves me in awe. I love him. More than he could ever fathom.
