CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF, Hayley Lincoln wasn't always an anti social person. In fact, she was extremely outgoing as a young girl ━ she had many friends, was willing to volunteer in the public spotlight, and was completely comfortable in social situations. That was all up until she was exposed to a truth that shook her to her very core, and permanently damaged her ability to trust anyone ever again.

It sounds dramatic (and it was) but in fairness, Hayley had basically just discovered that most of what she had believed to be true for her entire life was in fact a lie. Her newfound lack of trust as an innocent nine year old caused her to close herself off from the world and doubt her judgment of people. So by the time her first year at Hogwarts had rolled around, Hayley had invented one very simple rule that she swore to abide by, and (foolishly) believed would solve all of her problems:

          Do not make friends.

And so far, against all odds (and the disapproval of her father) she had succeeded.

Attending Hogwarts was almost exactly what she expected (up until fifth year when one of her famous peers became her teacher? Like, what the fuck?) other than the shock that the Sorting Hat had in stall for her in the Welcoming Feast of her first year. Despite being one of the most loyal souls to ever walk the earth, Hayley was not sorted into Hufflepuff as her dad had been. Instead, the Sorting Hat had identified that the one dominant trait which the good natured brunette possessed (which was undeniably the reason she had landed herself in the house of the silver and blue) was an untameable curiosity.

Case in point — the fact that she decided to follow one of her classmates after becoming increasingly suspicious about where he suddenly disappeared to every month. Nobody ever thought that the day would come where Neville Longbottom could safely say that he had his very own stalker, but Hayley was about to change that.

(Admittedly, nobody ever really thought about things like that anyway, but Neville was willing to overlook that minor factor, and just concentrate on the more prominent parts of this unusual situation).
